Improved flight III Los Angeles have VLS tubes, near the bow area.
The early Los Angeles class submarines didn't have vertical launch tubes (VLS). Just torpedo tubes.
Later builds in the LA class got VLS, but those didn't start entering service until later in the 80s.
Maybe those 'Improved Los Angeles' class subs will be included in future DLC campaigns set in a later date (along with Russian or Brit playables?).
The deveopers have stated the 688i will be in the game at a later date, so expect VLS tubes, also they have shown interest in the possibilioty of the Improved Victor III for Russia. The SeaWolf may also be added in later, which will certainly be a headache for any Russian Submarine Captain of even the highest caliber.
If the game does well they have expressed great interest in expanding the game to other nations and multiplayer/co-op.
This game is developed by 2 people in total, quite an amazing feat considering AAA studios like EA can pump out pretty looking garbage and these guys can create a Sub-Sim that makes Silent Hunter look like Lego Submarines.
LAND STRIKE: you must return to your home base to acquire the number of land strike weapons specified by your orders. Then sail to the destination where you need fire those weapons into a deployment zone (marked on your map). Missiles reaching the deployment zone will automatically be terminally guided to their target. Note that enemy ships may be in position with the ability to shoot down missiles en route. This mission type will only be given if your current submarine is capable of equipping land attack missiles.
Let us know if this is not clear enough.
I don't think any subs have VLS which I was expecting, but I think it plays better like this.
When I have to attack a surface fleet, I have to fire a volley, survvie the counter attack, and fire another volley, then mop up with torps. It plays much better and is really challenging rather than launching an over welmingly huge strike from VLS and torp tubes on the first launch. I can't target everything so I havce to be very carefull who I target with those 4 shots. VLS would be too OP methinks.
We're going to add clarification for this to the mission briefing so you can tell if it is an ASW patrol or the actual strike mission you're in.
