If you are completionist guide is recommended. If you find playing game "blind" more fun, do it without guide.
I dont care for guides per say unless i hit a brick wall. But i also dont wantto get 1/2 way through game and few AP points because choices I made may not give out AP's hence hold me back. Seems AP is important.
In addition at the end of each day it is easy to tell that you got max AP achievable on that day or not (by reaction of Towa, Sara) If you got other rank than S at the end of each chapter that means you missed some AP. During game there will be some questions that require knowledge from books/bonding event etc.
As you see playing ToCS without guide is 100% possible.
There's not too much of a difference playing with a guide and playing without in my experience, however I'd never be able to collect all the rare goodies without one.
Yup. As someone mention above, it adds more side stuff, like for example Anton (if some1 missed him from Sora no Kiseki SC), extra info about characters etc.
There is like one truly hidden quest, where you need to speak twice to trigger it and one hidden action in one of the later chapters which you should be able to figure if you paid minimum attention to the previous day, everything else you just need to speak with characters once, unless you are lazy to speak with them you can't miss quests. Just keep to a general line that there is always 1 hidden quest per free day and 1 per field study and you will be fine without guide.
