If you got A1 or A0 rank, you get a special item. A1 and A0 have different items.
There's a bonus scene near the beginning depending on who you danced with at the end of CS1.
What I don't:
I've heard that the DLC costumes carry over.
As for whether or not there's a reason to play this game if you already watched gameplay videos of this: that would depend on whether or not you watched a full playthrough or just a few gameplay videos. You can't play CS II without playing this game first, or at least watching a full story playthrough. You won't understand what's going on in the story or who any of the characters are. The second game has a 'Backstory' option on the main menu, but that's there mainly to refresh the memory of those who've played the first game before the sequel came out and might've forgotten some stuff. It is not a valid alternative to either playing the game or watching a full playthrough.
If you have watched a full and complete playthrough and know what happens in the story, then it is probably possible for you to play the second game without having to worry about missing much. Though that would also depend on whether or not the gameplay from the first game and the things you can carry over into the second game are worth it to you.
In any case, I'd recommend (if you haven't already, and if you like what you've seen of this game) to play through the Trails in the Sky Trilogy before Cold Steel II comes out, since there are quite a few more spoilers and references to the them than were in Cold Steel I. And Cold Steel III (whenever it gets localized) will expect players to have played all the other games by that point.
All the games in the Trails Saga should be on sale right now, so ultimately it's up to you to decide what you'll do. But whatever you choose to do, i wish you luck and hope this post was helpful.
Happy gaming! :)
EDIT:
This as well. While I haven't done it myself, any DLC costumes you buy for this game should carry over to CS II as well.
Yes, you can. You get the option to dance with them in NG+.
Eh, these games were made to be played mutliple times. Or at least twice. In CS II there is a scene that is only available in NG+ after completing a NG+ exclusive secret quest. You need to have played Trails in the Sky the 3rd or the scene will lose all impact since you won't really understand it. It is also very important to the lore and is 100% canon since CS III expects you to have seen it.
Someone asked on these boards once if a NG+ playthrough was worth it. You can find my response to his question in this thread if you want a few more details: http://steamcommunity.com/app/538680/discussions/0/1486613649680424133/
There are quite a few NG+ exclusive scenes.
