let me guess.... you played it up to chapter 2 or 3 and think that the game progresses too slow and boring?

Yes, i usually love jrpg. But i dont know, i cant like this game

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. I thought the same when I first play this game. They actually took a long time to introduce these characters and the cities in Erebonia to the players, so 70% of the story in the first game will progress slowly. It'll get better later in CS1, and straight to the point in CS2.

Trails is a slow burn but this arc is especially bad. I also don't think going into it blind is as "fun" as most make it out to be.

You played Trails in the Sky at all?

No, but i play most ff game, most tales game, jrpg from se/square soft, suikoden, wild arms and many other jrpg. And i like all of them

Yea I'm a big fan of most of those as well but the entire Trails series is a little different. Without fail an arc opener Trails game goes something like this: character introductions -----> slice of life moments to flesh out moods and the like -----> exploration of the nation you're in -----> some minor conflicts -----> wait... it's a slightly bigger conflict then I thought ------> "Holy hell things are getting a little INTENSE" -----> "Cliffhanger from hell FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!" (at the end of the game of course)

I hear Zero doesn't have the cliffhanger part (lucky us right?). You're probably at the "exploration of the nation you're in/minor conflicts" part. The problem is you've started on game 6 of a 7 game series. Unlike virtually every other jrpg series on the planet the previous iterations of the games actually *do* matter because there's a lot more going on in Cold Steel than initially meets the eye. It's basically invisible to a newbie to the series however or even someone who hasn't played Trails in the Sky The 3rd. Even the "fastest" Trails game (probably The 3rd from what i've played) still delivers it's "symphony" at the end of the game.

I'd say start with the first game because the payoff becomes huge later. In regards to just Cold Steel it'll pick up around Chapter 4 or so.

For my biassed perspective as a real robot fanboy, the one which sold this game to me is the epilogue and the entire second game. That's why for mypersonal rating of Cold Steel is higher than Sky. Other than that, the reason I like Trails series is the world building and NPC.

Regarding the thing you spoiler tagged there, XSEED did not to show any of that in their promotional media when advertising Cold Steel 1 back then which is something I appreciated very much. So when the game dropped the bomb near the end, and holy sh*t was I faboying at that elevator scene.

To get back to the OP - I really don't recommend skipping to Cold Steel 2. That game kicks off after a nasty cliffhanger, and it assumes you already know who all these people are and what's going on.

For what it's worth, I generally agree about the plot moving slowly. Know that it does pick up, but only to a certain degree. Basically, Cold Steel is one giant game broken up into three parts (the last of which isn't even out yet). So the "slow introductory part" that a lot of games have? That part kinda runs for about half to 2/3 of Cold Steel 1.

If cold steel 2 is good, i will just read a quick summary about cold steel 1 story. I will give suikoden 5 as example, that game is really slow at the beginning, but it only last 3-5hr ish. After that i enjoy the game until finish

I always go by the rule that if a game fails to be fun after 30 min, its a failure of design. This game fits that perfectly.

If you can somehow bring yourself to sit though the slog, it gets better.

Yeah agreed the game is really slow to start. But the fact that this is a series of game instead of a standalone title really gives me the incentive to go on since i dont really like skipping titles. Also now that i've seen Rean's robot after googling it (yeah i'm curious after reading the robot spoiler lol) omg we get to be a watered down super robot pilot? HELL YES this is so gonna be worth it XD.
Well good luck on getting into later titles.

The game definitely does feel slow at the start, but knowing how exciting the 2nd and 3rd games will probably be when they eventually get here has kept me at pushing along anyways. The story is actually getting better now that I'm further in, though.

We seriously need more Xenogears-tier mecha JRPGs. There's a severe lack of them in the genre.
