Xenonauts 2 vs Phoenix Point (Complete edition)
Hi, I don't know whether to go to Xenonauts 2 in early access or rather to Phoenix Point - Complete edition. The price is about the same. What would you recommend? (Apologies to the developers for this topic here)

Probably X2. I played PP and I honestly just didn't like it. Also had no modding scene to make the game more enjoyable. Not that X2 has mods, but given how well the first game did with them, and this is a way more mod friendly engine, it should be great even if you don't like something present.

Go for Phoenix Point ( Complete Edition), as that is a finished Game, from Start to End, while Xenonauts 2 is Early Access for now, without the means to finish it, missing content and research, you have about an entire year, to get Xenonauts 2, so, you have time to get both in the end, and once you do, can play Xenonaus 2 as well from start to finish with its full content.

I love Phoenix Point and it's complete and finished. This is a great game too but has more to do before it's complete and far from the amount of content that Phoenix Point has now.

There is a big overhaul mod for PP in the works: Terror from the Void

As of now the X2 EA seems to have no new game content compared to X1, besides the new engine, so if you already have played X1 there is no reasopn to get X2 at this point.

I have to agree with the posters, Phoenix Point in full, outstanding game that improved on some X-com 2 miss steps. Though I felt the ship to ship battles should have been more innovative and presented better than a side to side mode, it accomplished its purpose. You put a lot into the animation and isometric battle-sequences, the ship to ship felt just thrown in. Plenty of turn based ship games and mechanics you could have pulled from.

Phoenix Point was well done.
This game seems like the first with no real vast inventive additions, but when finished could surpass the original. :Garrison:

Phoenix Point has also Terror from the Void (on the workshop) and is a finished and complete game.
Xenonauts 2 is too similar to the first one, while many changes and improvements have been made, it feels like what Xenonauts should have been all along back in 2013.

I came across this post that outlines the differences between Xenonauts 1 and 2 if you're familiar with the first: https://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34952-what-are-the-differences-between-xenonauts-1-and-xenonauts-2/

I haven't played the second yet, but this definitely lists a bunch of improvements that appeal to me so I'm planning to pick it up after a bit of EA.

no point paying for a game with no mods.
PP doesnt really and will never have, Also too much DLC
XENO 2 will have mods, But i wonder why they havent released the modding tools yet.....

Ngl, I'm chuckling pretty hard when reading "Phoenix Point is finished and complete".

What a disapointing failure of a game that was. It was only downhill from the moment they sold a game they got founded on backer money to Epic.

Honestly, skip PP and go for Xenonaut 1 if you want something to tie you over until Xenonaut 2 is released.

Phoenix Point devs scammed their backers, I would not support that company even in a million years.

200 hours in Phoenix point, it's not a bad game, but I have to say my money is on X2. It has something PP was sadly missing.

Phoenix Point is really fun.. up until the Umbra units show up. They have similar issues as the reapers - you have to kill them twice, the second iteration gets to just.. do stuff without you being able to counter it and you're basically going to be taking damage every time they're around.

I'm replying to an old topic, but it really comes down to what you're looking for

If looking for a traditional X-Com experience from the 90's
-get Xenonauts 2-

If looking for the more modern 2K/Firaxis X-Com experience
-get Phoenix Point-

Be warned tho: Phoenix Point is a little messy and not as straight forward as X-com. Lots of people hate it and quit because since its very easy to mess up a game if you don't know what you're doing or understand the game mechanics.

Best tl;dr advice for Phoenix Point I can give is:

there's no income (except for food mid game), so
- research trade
- steal a helios ship
- use the helios to trade with colonies
tip: trades are always in your favor

for fighting:
- research New Jericho weapons ASAP
- use Bulldogs as your basic battle rifle
the bulldogs' stats look bad, but you'll notice this weapon is distinctly better than the Ares and Deimos as you run into tougher/armored enemies thanks to better shred.

the gift:
- wait as long as you can before doing this mission when it appears
- you absolutely have to prioritize shooting down enemy flyers
- make and arm your fighter aircraft with 1 Prometheus AAM. this is -THE- best anti-air weapon early game
