I'm afraid not, no - it was just a Kickstarter reward.
Just want to say on that note that the aesthetics, art direction, lore, and feel of the first game was just spectacular.
One of the strongest reason I enjoy XCOM franchise (and other games with decent customization) was the ability put me and my friends into the game. It doesn't even have the ability to customize stats and stuff, just need to be able to edit their looks and name is enough.
you can edit the name already. What i would like to have is to have an option to select nationality. You are just like me! I also enjoyed always to put my friends and me into the game, and kick some intergalactic ass
Ya I know about the name edit, I played the tutorial until I found myself able to edit name but can't change anything else, it became pointless so I decided to stop for now.
Putting myself and my friends into the game is... most of the time my only reason to buy games (even bad games I can tolerate only because the game allows me to do this).
Why would you lock something so basic and desired behind a kickstarter reward?
I can understand maybe having your portrait or something as kick starter reward, but changing basic soldier information? Wow.
With all due respect, that is lame and not a cool thing to do at all.
This is almost on par with locking changing game settings as a kick starter reward. You certainly do not need to mess with settings to enjoy the game, but so many people expect this as a basic function, the same as they would expect basic soldier customization options in a game like this.
I mean how many kickstarter supporters could you even have? I am assuming like 75% plus of the people who bought this game are not kickstarters, so that is the vast majority of the player base of the game not getting to use a highly sought after feature simply because we were not the first people to support the game? Never heard of this happening ever in any game I have bought. I mean people get skins and customization stuff, but never on the scale of taking away a basic feature of the game just so a few select people can have it.
This alone makes me not want to support this company and wish I could get a refund. I assumed the option was coming in the future, never thought it was locked out for only a select group to use.
It's not even remotely close. Changing game settings is a basic requirement of a game to enable proper functionality on multiple systems. You are comparing that to cosmetic changes that make no difference. It's something that is, literally, objectively optional. It is not some basic, must-have feature required in order to have the game run or play properly.
You're complaining that the inability to paint your car a custom color is almost as bad as having the inability to adjust your mirrors. For real?
It is not a requirement for the game to work on different systems, there are other ways to do it. I was also referring to options in general, did not mean to just say graphics.
Some games do not let you adjust settings, and there are auto settings that can be used too by the devs.
So my comparison is apt as I also stated "almost on par" which is saying not quite as bad, but close. So my opinion is just as valid as yours, so yeah, For Real.
Also are you "for real" defending them locking game features that are already in the game and standard in similar games behind a pre-order?
It's not "defending" them. I don't care whether customization of soldiers is included in the game or not. But the point is that you're making this sound like it's some core, super duper important feature that needs to be in the game and it's a total travesty if it isn't. It is cosmetic, it is the least important thing in the entire game.
If you disapprove, that's okay, and it's understandable that people would want this. But the manner in which you're disapproving is an overreaction.
If you're going to give backer-only rewards, the best way to do it is to give them cosmetic stuff. It wouldn't be fair to other players to lock gameplay-affecting things behind the state of being a backer or not.
