Full release progress?
I'm really excited for this game, but I don't play early access. Is there a sense for roughly when it'll be out? Is it close, like months? Could it take another year? If you don't know, how finished does it feel?

Your doing yourself a disservice to not play this game at any point in development.
But I do get it I'm leery of some dev's and their EA titles, I get it.
Xenonaughts 2 is I would say the last stages of EA. Because they have an Experimental Branch that you can choose to play that has the End Game in it. The dev's are testing it.
So I would say anytime now.
We know there's still a Milestone 6 coming but that's hopefully the last major development milestone, after that it's balancing, polishing and the inevitable bugsquishing.
Realistically I don't expect full release in less than 6 months, but I'd be equally surprised if it was not out by the end of 2025.

Thank you. Will wait. From what I have seen in Milestone 3, game still badly needs work, and lots of it.

Hopefully something relevant hits the market. Menace from the Battle Brothers devs looks promising.

Not true, I started several times, and with every update something essential broke, ruined my playthrough and had to start over.

Won't touch this game again until release, too much fundamental changes with every major update.

Don't know, but for me it feels like devs are just experimenting and have no clear goal, no real master plan for a final version.

Sucks to be you. in 270+ hours on this game so far, the worst bug I have encountered is Battleships refusing to spawn, but that did not stop me from beating the game.
I came on to ask the same question.

Honestly, I don’t have much time for gaming. I want to play the complete version all the way through and, if it’s really good (like the first game), play it again the next year and the next.

I understand the satisfaction of seeing the game as it develops, but I just don’t have the time for that. And I don’t want to play the game knowing that soon there will be more content that I’ll potentially have to start over again to enjoy.

I seriously don't understand why fans of the game would want to discourage others from playing by haranguing them about not buying it in early access. It's perfectly reasonable to wait until full release.

The game is currently in an excellent state, it's far beyond milestone 3. It can be completed, relatively bug free in it's current state.

The devs don't consider the game feature complete yet. It definitely feels pretty complete, so the fact they are adding more is pretty exciting. In fact it's pretty exciting for those choosing to wait, as it seems they are dedicated to completing the feature list.

I waited for quite a while and only purchased at milestone 5, and I usually don't buy EA titles, and I don't think my money is wasted. However, I do wish I waited until completion, as nothing is new anymore, and playing with all the features demands starting over.
I have been really enjoying the campaign, but I reached a part where the text in the technology tree has become placeholder text. From what I can see, you can't actually "complete" the game yet. However, if you want that classic UFO/X-Com hit, what is there is very good.

You need to be on the beta/experimental branch of the game to play in full. As soon as they fix the bugs, it will become the normal build.

The only early access game I've ever felt burned by was Spacebase-DF9 from Double Fine.

So far, every other such game has delivered, although sometimes after many years, like with Factorio, or after many *more* years, like 7 Days to Die.

The thing to look for, is if there is continuous progress, or if development seems stalled. Some such games update only a few times a year, or maybe even just once per year (which would be a red flag), but Xenonauts 2 updates its beta branch monthly or more often.

Release in 2025 would be nice.
I am checking this forum 6+ years for sure to check when they are going to release it...
Something seriously went very wrong during the development time.

Unfortunately, for me, there is no other game that would emulate the same vibe as old UFO games had.

So, finger crossed.
