but mod support would be cool in the future.
Games like this tend to rely on mods and community for long term viability.
The development cycle is very long and the teams resources are limited so tinkering with balance takes a long time. I backed the kickstarter and the game is already way past initial deadlines.
To keep people engaged in the long run they will need mods.
They can easily enable modding only on the beta branch or do something similar. I see no problem with that and I am sure many modders would appreciate a head start on learning how to work with the project.
Nuts. Adding some OPTIONAL feature won't put off a single customer.
Eta? this game needs more content...
I would absolutely love modding instructions to be shared so that rough mods can be worked on early, but indeed things can be broken too quite many times and many assets will be added too. It can lead modders to "burnout" before release.
Maybe 3 or 6 months before release is good for an eta.
