Bomber Crew
Ability to navigate from high altitude?
So I'm just in the begining of the game, but I'm curious: does it get at all easier to navigate?

only possible to navigate at high alt once you get navigate by stars perk for your navigator only works at night

Interesting. How far along is that?

I whish star navigation would unlock earlier. I have yet to unlock it and I feel forced to fly at low altitude 90% of the time because there are always clouds...

It unlocks at the right time because at that stage you will have the electrically heated gloves or boots and without the proper thermals the crew wont survive at high altitudes

as soon as your navigator has the ability to create custom way points (level 3? or 4?) you can fly up in high altitude no problems. you just have to remember where your targets are. you wont be able to see the targets anymore though. so i you need to figure out which direction to go, you'll have to go down to get a refresher.

though you could be lucky enough to not get any cloud coverage and thus can fly high up. basically as long as your navigator can see the ground, he can do his work automatically. otherwise just keep making your own custom waypoints if you want to be up that high.

not that much, you get at lvl.8 star navigation only it works reliably well at high altitude and at NIGHT.
so you need heavy thermal equipment to survive the cold sky and isn't an all time solution as ground navigation, besides high altitude target acquisition and bombing is a bit tricky

however, it is very useful for grand slam missions.

You can get a 50% solution between mid and high altitude, but since there's unfortunately no "hold alt" button, if you don't have the cold gear for high alt you've got to toggle between mid and high alt.

Well we need the hold alt
and we also need the ability to navigate by radio. doesn't even have to be very good. just enough to get near the target / home base
also the custom mark should be able to be used no matter what visiblity

I just had a grand slam mission. The bomber arrived over mission target at daytime. My lvl 12 navigator couldn't do s***t.....no waypoints, no target. I had to go down to medium to make him work again. But....you have to drop the grand slam from high altitude, so I went up to high altitude ....as a result all the waypoints vanished and the navigator was blind again.

It wasnt even very cloudy. Stupid game design.

In my Bomber Command game you CAN'T create costum waypoints if your navigator is blind.

Honestly, this is quite retarded. Seems these guys don´t even have a compass. I don´t need super accurate navigation, but not being able to do a 180 turn after a gaining altitude just after a bombing run... makes no sense at all.

I still really enjoy the game, but yeah waypoints are messed up. That and having to tag fighters for your gunners to hit.

yes that was my main irk when i started this game

now is mainly me cussing out my gunners who cant aim for ♥♥♥♥

Them not being able to aim real well seems actually realistic. Them sitting there not shooting at the six planes that I can't tag because I'm coordinating who's healing the pilot, who's piloting the plane, and who's repairing the oxygen? Less realistic.
Lego_Teh_Eggo Oct 23, 2017 @ 5:50pm
no the not being to aim is fine
im just saying it still pisses me off
