Ventral Turret

I'm considering adding a ventral turret, is this worth it in the early game?

I'd guess an extra gun is a good thing, but being under the plane the early missions are usually done at low altitude. Is it better to wait?

it will become useful in later missions, lets just say the real Lancaster didn't have one until much later, so the Germans came up with an almost fool-proof tactic to take out a Lancaster

Probably isn't worth it if you're not regularly flying at medium altitude.

I have found it very useful and I use my flight engineer to operate it.

most of the time you only use them in mid-altitude and in later missions, and when you do actually need to use em you can just do a super quick swap between top gunner to bottom and take em out ez, since having engi on seat at all times (unless something needs repairs) is a great idea

I would get one around 4000 weight, maybe earlier, otherwise the enemy planes that can fly underneath your plane in the blind spot will cause you a lot of damage.

I'm going to repeat this: BF-110s CAN attack you with Schrage Musik at low altitudes. I've had it done to me. I was not at medium, I was at low, they punished my undies. It was not nice.

Early game, no. It's a lot of weight and a high expense. Once you've got more weight and a steady flow of income to work with, then consider it.

The ventral turret has really good coverage, it was one of my first upgrades and I didn't regret it.

Also - I don't think I've seen the BF-110s use Schrage Musik, to me it looks like they let their rear turret gunner shoot at you.
