Yes, I mean the "MIA" crewmembers who failed the odds spinner are classed as MIA for good. They are basically dead. The guys who got lucky will indeed get back into the fight.
Shame, would be cool to have a search and rescue mission where you could somehow get them/one back.
Nearly everyone who bailed out and survived over occupied territory ended up a POW, so they're out for the duration.
I think it just would have been a cool mechanic if they could escape. happened in the war quite often.
It got more common as the Allied forces made their way across Europe, but successful 'home run' escapes were rare. Most of the Great Escape escapees were recaptured and a good many got shot.
(There is a whole game to be made for a POW escape mind)
There was a great game about 15 years ago that was about escpaing from POW camps.
