I clicked the ''abort'' action to get straight back to base and it didnt work too?
how are the emergency buttons working?
"Abort" just tells your navigator to forget the objective and plot a course home. You still have to fly back.
The pilot like every good captain goes down with the (air)ship. Unless you command them to leave their station.
I though the pilot was going in a dive to gain speed and made a final smotth landing
seems that he kept on that diving angle and crashed on the water

Yeah, I also thought that the pilot would glide for a ditch(they should). I think that's something the devs should look into.
if no, then I think it should not be a pilot skill but a hotkey instead
