Bomber Crew

Just lost my plane and entire crew due to landing with one wheel
Ugh. Ha, its funny but its not. So my plane was almost maxed out. Crew with max gear and nicely leveled up. I'm using the USAAF pack. I went out completed a mission. As I lowered my gear, I noticed I had only one wheel. I panicked. Note sure what to do, I put all of my fuel into the side that had the wheel. I went to land and completely crashed. Plane destroyed and my entire crew dead.

Ugh. Haha.

Is there any advice on how to land with one wheel? Should I have just tried an emergency landing or bailed? I'm a bit on the fence to try and get all of my gear back only to lose everything in the same way.

Any tips?

Keep the gear raised and Emergency Land on the runway. Make sure crew is at full health. They will take damage.

There are threads on this and people have outlined the safe steps when trying to save plane and crew.

Here's a recap...

Having 1 wheel gone is not a death sentence, as in the case above, plane and crew safe and recovered.

THIS IS FOR DOING BELLY-FLOPS ONLY.

1) Make sure you’ve dropped all your bombs or you’ll possibly explode like a powder-keg on contact with the ground. Additionally, make sure fuel is balanced left to right, this will help from wings clipping and rupturing fuel tanks.

2) When you know the landing strip icon should appear soon start to climb to high alt, and be at medium. This is only for if you have enough chutes to bail out all but your pilot.

3) Get a navigational lock on runway and make sure your pilot is locked into his seat, and have at least 8 parachutes. If you are short on chutes, move the ball turret gunner to one of the other open stations.

4) As soon as you get the lock on the runway start the crew bailing. This should be done from medium and higher altitude.

5) Lower remaining landing gear, so you don’t get flagged off. When close to coming in click “Emergency Landing” and raise the gear. You should then land on or near the runway in a belly-flop.

I've made a tutorial in another thread about landing with 1 wheel:

- pump all the fuel from the wheel-missing-side to the side with wheel intact and drop the remaining bombs
- lower landing gear
- land as usual

the problem is that 99,99% of the players don't think about the fuel...which is, surprisingly, highly flammable / explosive (who would have known ???)

Did all that. My Lanc, being in pretty nice condition overall except for lacking one engine and one wheel, disintegrated on landing nonetheless.

didn't have this problem, but I mainly play the B-17 DLC.
I'll test with the Lanc on the occasion.

I am pretty experienced in one wheel or no wheel landings, usually it went smooth. I stopped playing shortly before the 'challenge mode' update, came back recently -- and found that something changed in that regard.

Landed three times with one wheel on the Lanc.
1. Blew up, all crew killed.(Bombs on board, low fuel but not transferred)
2. Wing and tail fell apart, plane destroyed, 2 KIA. (No bombs, No Fuel (0 Mins flight time left))
3. Heavy wing damage, Plane survived, all crew survived. (No bombs, fuel transferred)
