Bomber Crew
B-17 Final Mission gripes
I thoroughly enjoy this DLC and its missions, but my god is it that last mission a pain. I've yet to beat it.

Because not only do you have to destroy the large bunker with a Disney Rocket bomb, an explosive you've never used before, and are never informed about how you have to drop it from high altitude. In general doing this is pain because of the weather and assaulting planes, but is also a problem because in the event that you do somehow manage to pull that off, you then have to support the landings from being bombed.

Which in and of itself is hardly a problem, but I found that even with a target bearing down on him from high speed and exceptionally close, the dorsal gunner always wants to point his tunnel-visioned eyes at some biplane off in the distance that couldn't scratch my plane with anything short of crashing into it...which is too far away for him to shoot at. So almost every time, some jet fighter swoops in, kills my pilot or several crewmen, and then I just have to give up because I refuse to accept losing my bomber at this point because I know I will never be able to catch up again because of the replacement bomber and crew never being good enough to withstand the insane difficulty curve.

And on top of that you've got to deal with the Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier after that with your second Disney Bomb?! I mean, come on.

Not only do you have to bomb the aircraft carrier but you have to do so while it is moving and maneuvering, with a bomb that has a lead time, at high altitude so you can't course correct. It's a garbage end to an otherwise good DLC in my opinion. Either let us may custom waypoints at all times (why wouldn't you?), or make the pilot AI try to line up bombing runs on ships from behind (like they line up runways for landing).

Turns out that GZ actually stops after a while to keep launching planes at you. Still a pain, certainly, but at least she stops.

It's easy, fly low all the time, when you see the first target, start to climb high and manouver every time you pass it to corretc your course untill you're able to release the bomb. Then dive to low, spot the carrier and repeat the procedure. You can also lean all the way to the target then boost while climbing to reduce the time to reach high alt.

I've since completed the mission, it's fairly straightforward despite the issues, but it's still pretty ridiculous that they don't TELL you that the Disney bombs have to be droppped from High Altitude. You've never used them previously, so you should have no reason to assume that they should, aside from maybe their size. But even then.

man, how unfortunate that i'm playing the USAAF DLC here in 2021, and NOW they say that the rockets need to be dropped from high altitude. . .smh. at least they DID add it, i guess. . .

What's incredibly stupid about these missions in this DLC is that the Graf was NEVER operational at any point during the war and even if she was, there was no way for her to enter the Med (Gibraltar is a thing, yeah?)!

Guess they skipped out the the carrier crew training. Because, what carrier commanding, in the right mind, would launch a aircraft attack on a bomber that has a 4x 50cal staring at them, with the planes having to climb up AND having the carrier to stop in order to launch the planes.

or what navy would send its ONE AND ONLY carrier out into the Mediterranean Sea alone close to enemy territory just LOOKING for a fight with enemy bombers and only armed with some AA guns and a few BIPLANES
