Yeah, that's not happening.
They've already paid a ton of money to build the world they've built. It's a huge amount of content that they would more or less just throw away and never make money from again.
An Offline mode would make a ton of sense to me as this was likely a very expensive project for them and any way they can continue to profit off it is to their benefit.
I also find it interesting that the JP version shuts down the very same day that they end magicite sales for the US. FF Dimensions II launched the same day the original shut down. A part of me wonders if they are waiting to end magicite sales for US before announcing an offline mode, since people likely would not continue paying for magicite if they knew offline was coming.
It boggles my mind why they are sinking money into a FF7 remake as well. I guess it goes to show they dont know how to make a successful game anymore so they are redoing old ones. If I want to play FF7 I will just play the original. There is no way I would put money paying for an inferior new version they will mess up.
I will miss Sophie and Meia. To hell with the annoying princess ...
The entire game revolves around monthly summon schedules, new releases every month, returning and new events activated regularly and regular new content releases.
To implement an offline mode, they would have to rewrite almost every single part of the game because every part of the game requires internet connection.
An offline mode would get very boring very fast because there would be no new releases or events.
Sure, they could sell the various events like DLCs, but considering the amount they charge just for enough magicite for a single summon, they would probably put the price point way above what most sane people would accept.
It does seem like a gigantic waste, though. If I were Square I would keep the servers running, but make sure to notify players that there won't be any further content updates, and let them play with what's there. Events and whatnot would continue to run on repeat every year at the same time. The magicite sales would surely be enough to keep the game running indefinitely.
I just can't fathom just throwing all this content and community out the window in a few months. What a dumb, destructive thing to do. It's like spending years making and refining a wooden sculpture...and then burning it all down, just because you didn't want to varnish it anymore.
I still remember SE's other mobile titles "Guardian Cross" and "Deadman's Cross" fondly. Too bad the games, their stories and characters are more or less forgotten now. There are no cutscene videos of those games, and any wiki dedicated to them don't have a plot summary or description of the characters.
I have asked about the plots at GameFAQs and the games' Facebook-pages, without any reply.
