how to fight?
can you fight in this game? i just started playing, no idea on what to do, left my base with 4 monkey followers then got attacked by a jaguar. it kept prompting me to dodge but i wanted to fight, it did not seem like i could so i tried to flee but that did not work as the jaguar killed one of my monkey friends. am i just useless? can i not fight without a weapon?

In short, no, you cannot fight without a weapon. The dodge prompt will always appear when you are attacked, but once you have a suitable item in your hand to fight with, "dodging" toward the threat will allow you to fight back.

As much as i do appreciate your help, It also came with such sadness to know that I can't just gather a group to literally just beat down anyone with raining fists. that is what i wanted more than to craft weapons.

I hear you. Unfortunately, it'll be roughly ten million years until the martial arts neurons become available.

You can fight without a weapon, you'll just end up injured - bleeding from the machairodus, (not jaguars, they live on a completely different continent), broken bones from most others. The only animal you can kill with your bare hands is the green mamba, but it's not guaranteed and you may get envenomated instead.

If you want to beat down on animals, get a rock and hit them with that.

I believe trying to fight predators barehanded results in death rather than simple injury, but I'll admit I've never personally tried and have only read about it. A warthog may just break your bones and let you go, but a machairodus or crocodile definitely wants to make lunch out of you.

It doesn't, you can absolutely punch a machairodus with a fist and it will run off. That's how I get most of my laceration neurons. Punching crocs leads to severe broken bones.

Huh, I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tip.

You can pick up a stone or a branch and many more stuff, but the best weapon is the hard bone it wont break and wont kill the enemy. If you want something to kill the enemy you can take a branch strip it and sharpen it with a stone or any other hard mineral, best tool is the basalt chopper for this. To dodge you have to hold A or D and space at the same time and let them go at the same time. To attack you have to hold W and space and let them go at the same time. Hope this helps and good luck on your ape journey.
