Pay attention to that circle at the bottom of the screen. It should ideally be green. As green as possible. If it is going yellow, you need to stop whatever you're doing and chill out a bit. If it is going red, eat and drink and sleep ASAP.
It also often precedes actual death of ape.
That said, I've used the sleepy eyes as a warning, on long treks, to start finding a bed or camp so that once it hits red, I can be straight there.
I do like catsim and just sleep wherever it's safe without making a bed. This blinking thing seems to happen however even after I sleep without building a bed beforehand. and tough I can't say I've paid close attention to the stamina wheel I'm pretty confident that it has not happened much while the red was being used.
After having paid attention to my stamina, this doesn't seem the case.
The status when the most recent random eye closing animations happend were
1st having slept a full night less then 3 in game hours before in a settlement having just fulfilled all needs (food, drink, sleep) and stamina completely in the green.
2nd having a partial night sleep and during/after predator attack. dopamine indicator more than half full and stamina half green half yellow.
3rd when traversing tree tops green stamina, nights rest 8 hours before.
this game puts so much emphasis on visual cues that it would be an extreme oversight if this pretty obnoxious animation happens for no reason, but I'm still no closer to finding out what it means.
So far it doesn't seem to have anything to do with stamina or being close to death
If you ignore sleep long enough, that ape can die.
okay, but three in game hours after a full nights rest? if what you're proposing is the case I'm experiencing a serious bug with it
