It was my first run and I decided to go without a hud or tutorial,
In the child-ape form I found some ape that I took control over upon interacting with them. I believe that this broke my game.
I restarted the game and instead found some resting as a child-ape, instead of going to the adult ape, and it turned me into an adult ape with a mission to find the missing child. I can drink water now in this state.
I believe that the game allowed me, but did not expect me, to take an alternative path by taking control over some random ape, but left me with interactions available only to the child-ape.
