First, God does exist. Quite simply, the universe makes too much sense in order to be an accident. I can't wrap my brain around a coincidence that massive for Earth to be the ONE planet (that we know of) that sustains (debatably) intelligent life. That the orbit of planets emulates the structure of atoms, electrons, protons, and neutrons. There is such overwhelming evidence for an intelligent design that it cannot possibly be ignored, no matter how legendary you consider your sense of stubbornness. Even when attempting the measure the unperceivable, it can still be measured by its influence (i.e magnetism and gravity) or its absence (astronomical objects that are not effected by said forces)
HOWEVER!!!! I would describe the Bible to be the word of God, AS WRITTEN BY THE FALLIBLE HAND OF MAN. Those who wrote it attempted to grapple with the mind of the infinite. We can't even comprehend the void of death, so how in the cinnamon toast f*ck do you think we can understand GOD? Furthermore, how do we know that the Bible did not have several edits made to it considering its influence over the development of human society? Are we trusting them on the honor system here?
Tl;DR version: if you think the entire universe and life is an accident, you are delusional. If you think every single word in the Bible is absolute truth, you are also delusional. Split the difference and work out your own conclusions based on what the evidence tells you.
Nailed it. Also I'm absolutely certain the bible has been edited, omitted, rearranged, translated, slanted, or what have you over the years. Isn't the council of nicea just on example of that, and I'm sure there would be other examples for better or for worse? Then you also have 2000 years of translating it and any intention the translator may wish to emphasize or diminish. So yea, it's not perfect. But it's the best we have at this point and is still an extremely important collection of books. It's not perfect because humans are not perfect, and anything you pass through a human filter is going to gain imperfections.
I guess to me, seeing things through this kind of lens, I don't even think the argument of science vs religion is a valid one. It's like arguing if the taste of vanilla is better/worse than the color red, it's a non sequitur, it's nonsensical. I guess for a long time humans basically used religion in lieu of science for various reasons, but we are way past that. It's not 1522 anymore.
I'm afraid that just isn't true. Many words in the modern world are taken from ancient hebrew. I.E Tithe is derived from tenth. Yahweh is derived from a mispronunciation of Jehuty, an Egyptian God of the written Word. It's an excellent example of cultural diffusion. If you want to learn more about the pre-biblical world, I'd suggest you investigate Ancient Egypt, who kept outstanding records. Sadly, we can't understand most of it, but we're still making the effort.
We as Orthodox believe that The Bible has no error, however it is not the only source of our theology. There was no Bible for the first 300 years or so, it had to be put together by our Church Fathers.
I recommend this video for more info. (from around 10 minutes on the Bible)

And to respond to the first paragraph, you basically said : "I interpret (with my fallible, finite mind) that the design is intelligent, therefore God." There are far better arguments than this.
Do you believe that Christ was God and that he established The Church?
Good for you. I respect your faith (which is a lot more respect than most people have shown on this therad), but as far as empirical evidence goes, there are a few sections of the bible that can be verified archaeologically such as the walled city of Jericho, and the great flood (yes, they proved that). The rest of it? I'm sorry, but that's anecdotal. It's someone else, who cannot be verified, telling you a story about something that happened.
As for your question, yes, I do believe Christ was God, but humankind established the Church. Because I think that the idea that an almighty, all-knowing, all powerful being has any need of mortal currencies like the Church always seems to is kind of absurd. Are you implying that God can't manage a check book?
Sounds like I hit a nerve, and you immediately resort to ad hominem because you don't agree.

Is it so much as fence-sitting or is it more than I think both arguments are stupid and wrong? I MUST apply the label of a good Christian and believe everything that is in the bible or an Atheist where I believe none of it to myself because that it what YOU expect me to do? I am expected to succumb to societal pressure and choose only one of these two camps completely... but I'm not going to do that because I refuse to surrender my own capacity for reason to appease your tiny, easily offended ego. It's figuring out the mysteries of the universe, not Jelly of the Month club, and I think the problem here is that you've attached said ego to your club house, and can't handle the fact that I do not agree with you completely.
I accept your surrender in debate.
