See, early hominids were not sleeping on the trees. They evolved in lush areas like the savanna later in the game, and lost their dexterious feet even before the ♥♥♥♥ genus. There's some discrepancy but archeologists generally agree that hominids were closer to humans in that they were living more on the ground, and used the trees and high places only to escape from predators, but preffered areas with water and fruit closeby, so would rather choose that than a tree top.
I think the developers took that into account, so not much tree sleeping for our apes. Either that or there's a bug you need to report.
