What is the general step by step of a patient?
When a patient comes to the hospital, let's say they are just so hard to diagnose, what's the most possible steps they will take?

I'm thinking it goes like this somewhat... Reception > GP > Diag place > GP > Diag place > etc

I have trained my GPs quite heavily and it doesn't seem to be impacting my diag rate.

You've got it right as to the typical route. As to the most possible steps, that all depends on how long their health lasts. Once their health bar is depleted, the patient dies even if they are not yet diagnosed.

So the shorter the queues, and the bigger array of diagnostics you have, the more steps the patient can take. If queues are longer, they won't be able to get to as many diagnostic rooms since their health is draining all the while. Thus there is no real, concrete answer as to how many steps is the maximum since there are so many factors.

Okay say they are the only patient in the hospital and have infinute health. What sort ot steps do they take?

Because it doesn't matter if they go through a portion repeatedly until death, I want to know what steps they should take.

So if it's Reception > GP > Diag until death that would help me prepare better.

Yes, it's GP-Diag-GP-Diag etc until they get diagnosed. What helps is having a large variety of diagnosis rooms, because the GP will try to send them to the room that will get the most diagnosis for the disease they have. So having variety means they have more ability to send them to the correct room, reducing the number of visits they need.

It seems like each diagnosis room has certain diseases they are better or worse at diagnosing and GPs will try to send patients to the best room but they're not always correct. The distance also seems to have an affect (they will prefer to send patients to a closer diagnosis room if one exists).

So a patient with Bogwarts might go to a GP, get diagnosed for 60%, and then the GP will try to send them to the correct diag room. If there is a general diag room next door (which has the best modifier for Bogwarts) there is a high chance they'll go there next, but it's not always accurate and I think there are other factors like skill or how busy they are. If they aren't diagnosed completely then they go back to a GP (not sure how it's decided, but probably queue lines + distance) and then it repeats, but I don't think it will ever repeat the same type of diagnosis room.

For some of the diseases a big chunk of the diagnosis % can come from the diag rooms if you have upgraded machines and high diagnosis trained nurses. 2nd (or more) visits to the GP room give a much smaller % than the first visit.

If you're interested I would check out the diagnosis guide here because it has a table of which rooms are best for which diseases. I don't think it ever mentions that in the game.

Thank you so much that really helps me understand the diagnosis process so much more!!

And don't forget to check in "Policy" (next to finance/staff/patients infopanel) the
-> Fast-Track-Treatment Decision,
so they go directly from e.g. General Diagnosis to Cardiology or other without visiting the GPs Office in between. Makes the queues quite shorter too!

Thank you I was looking for the policy stuff but couldn't remember if I imagined it or not!! :D

Actually, it doesn't make patients go directly from a diagnosis room to another diagnosis room. They still need to visit the GP's office to be sent to another diagnosis room.

It only skips the very last step, when the diagnosis threshold has been reached the patient directly goes to the treatment room instead of first going to GP's office. But yeah it's still worth it to activate the option in all your hospitals. ^^

Good to know! I didn't quite realise - maybe 'cause most of the time my patients have already good diagnosis (at least I hope so) and go directly for treatment or I just have to look proper ;-)
I guess, this will explain a lot for me, thanxx !!
