Mac issues
Hi Scrubs!

We're aware of some issues affecting a portion of mac users. We recommend that if you're having problems on mac, you first of all try updating to the latest version of High Sierra.

Also, please make sure you check out the minimum specs on our store page. We're working on optimising even more, but at the moment you'll need to make sure your mac at least matches these.

We'll keep monitoring the forums, so if you have any other mac issues, please do let us know.

Thanks,

Lauran

People on macOS run AV software?
If they want to avoid viruses, yes.

I dunno mate. Just trying to help. Firewall maybe? You know, take an idea and work with it. Might help, might not.
No, no, I get you're trying to help. Firewalls and AV aren't something I've ever needed to use on macOS (or any other *nix-derived system for that matter). Not that there isn't dodgy software out there but I've generally found it to be of the "would you mind installing this virus manually?" variety!

Literally the first person I've ever heard suggest it. I've been running macOS for about four years now and it's never come up. They don't run it on the machines in the Apple shops either (which is about the extent of my research - I don't care that much).

I'm not trying to get into an OS war so let's not go that way. I'm just trying to make sure we're clear - this is the first time anyone's suggested AV software for macOS (or disabiling same for compatibility issues) in the entire time I've owned a Mac.

I do sometimes run a Windows XP install in a virtual machine though and I make sure that has AV installed :D

Despite what you may have heard, Macs do get viruses, just like every other OS. Of course, the best protection is just being a smart user. Don't open suspicious links, don't execute suspicious files, etc.. Either you got lucky or you're not a complete idiot.

I've not heard that they don't. Well, I have heard that but that was ~15 years ago so I didn't take it as still applying in this day and age.

However what I've not heard is "Step 1 - Create an account on the computer, Step 2 - install AV software". As a long-time Windows user it was so fundamental to setting up a new system whereas it seems to be a fairly unnecessary step on macOS.

While using macOS I've encountered dodgy software but generally it's been amusingly feeble stuff (usually requiring the user to actively install it - not exactly stealthy!).

So yeah, I don't doubt that AV software exists for macOS or anything, just that it doesn't seem to be particularly common or necessary. Whether that's security through low market share, systems design, whatever, not really interested in arguing about it.

Anyway, putting that aside I think we can safely assume that AV software won't be causing the majority of issues for macOS users attempting to run TPH. Our rather wimpy graphics hardware on the other hand...

Game menu is loading fine but the rooms are like blackout, very low resolution does not work for me. Also, the problem persists even with the beta.

An external must not be connected. When a second display is connected I only get a black screen and music. When the external display is disconnected it runs fine.

What are the resolution differences of the two monitors?

This game will display a black screen when it's out of VRAM. A higher resolution takes more VRAM. So, if the external monitor has a higher resolution that's your issue. If you change the desktop resolution to something matching the macbooks screen (or below) it should be fine.

My mac is MACBOOK PRO 8.1
maybe it is too old for this game...

Yeah, sorry that's true. Your GPU is about 5x weaker than the min for macs.

This game runs even fine on a 2012 Mac mini (i7, Intel HD 4000), and Mac OS Mojave. Settings on medium res. 720p

No it hasn't unfortunately. I also posted it under another discussion topic and I haven't been given a fix on either.

Hi,

First of about your Mac. What can it do?

1. Go to the Apple in the top-menu. Choose: About this Mac.
You'll get a little pop-up, with some information about your Mac. Copy that to a post here.

2. While you're looking at the pop-up, you're under Overview. Go to Support. Then click on Specification under Mac Resourses. This opens a webpage from Apple about your Mac.
On that page under Graphics and Video Support you see your cards. Copy that to a post here.

Hi there, I have an issue and it's not related to the graphics! I go through the first few steps of the tutorial just fine, playing with the camera, placing a reception and hiring an assistant and then I go to place a GPs office and when ever I click the confirm button to finish the room the game crashes.

Hiya, hope someone can help, I can't even make it pass the tutorial.
Everytime I put down the reception desk, the game crashes.
Such a bummer, hope there is a fix for this.

Game runs fine - but my fans go absolutely crazy! MacBook Pro 2017 touch - i5 16gb ram.
Plus the resolution isn't great - have to run it in a odd resolution when connected to 4k monitor. Please sort it out.
