Import Sundered save from Stadia
TLDR: How can I use my savegame from Sundered: Eldritch Edition on Stadia with a Steam copy of Sundered: Eldritch Edition?

I recently tried out Stadia Pro, and after trying out several of the free games offered with the service, I rather enjoyed Sundered. I played it for a while, getting most of the way through the campaign. I decided not to continue my Stadia subscription due to some issues I encountered, but I wanted to finish playing Sundered.

So, I purchased a copy on Steam, used Google Takeout to download my Stadia savegames, and copied the save (SAVE_GAME.sav) from Stadia into the local save folder for Sundered(Users\[ME]\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Sundered). But, the save does not show up in the game menu; I just see 3 blank game slots.

Does anyone know how to get this working?
Thanks!

Your mistake was playing it on a Stadia in the first place. Play the game again and enjoy it on a real system.

You probably need to start a game before doing the swap. The presence or absence of a save game is kept in the file USER_INFO.sav.

I tried that. I played the game for a couple minutes, then quit out and replaced the save file. Still shows up blank.
I also tried setting Steam to offline mode to avoid it trying to load cloud saves; still nothing.

I do notice that when I play the game on steam, it generated a file named: "R1_Prototype_savedRegion2.1.sav".
The Stadia folder for the game doesn't include any files like that. It just has:
"SAVE_GAME.sav"
"SAVE_OPTIONS.sav"

Could that be the issue?

I've tried leaving that savedRegion2.1 file there, I've tried removing it, still nothing showing up in game.

I have also tried copying over the save options, and that seems to work fine(the settings from Stadia are set), but still no save game showing up in game.

The file you mentioned is a cache of the level generation to speed up loading. It won't have any effect on the game progress. As you don't have a USER_INFO.sav in your stadia files, it's possible the person who handled the Stadia port changed the save structure a bit and it is no longer the same format as Steam. I can double check, but in that case they wouldn't be compatible unfortunately.

The dev that handled the port tell me they should be compatible. If you send me your save file to alex@thunderlotusgames.com I can check if I have the same issue.

He tried the following steps and it worked:

1. Download the files using Google takeout
2. Disable cloud saving for the game on Steam
3. Copy SAVE_GAME.sav and SAVE_OPTIONS.sav in the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Sundered
4. Launch the game

I tried disabling the cloud saving, copying SAVE_GAME.sav and SAVE_OPTIONS.sav, then launching the game. It still comes up with 3 empty game slots.

I have emailed the save file to you.

Thank you for looking into this.

I tried loading your save and I also have empty slots. The save seems a bit small at 6 kb. There is a lot of progress in it on Stadia? Anyway I'll send it to the person who did the port and see what he says.

I'm more than halfway through the game.
The "SAVE_GAME.sav" that I sent you is 27kb in size, md5: 3c7b3c2cbd6939fe7cbb1c9c5964ac9c

If that's not what you see in the zip I sent you, let me know and I'll send it again.

I do notice that after I copy the 27kb save file into the Sundered folder and start the game, the SAVE_GAME.sav file changes to being 5kb in size, and some errors are written to output.txt:

At this point I am unsure what could be causing the issue. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I don't have a quick access to a machine that would allow me to see what happened. Was your save in the first slot (top-most one) on Stadia?
Katsuo Nuruodo Feb 19, 2021 @ 3:04pm
yes, it was in the top slot.
You were able to find the 27kb save file I sent you, right?

Yes I was! But as with you, once I first loaded the game the data was lost. This probably means there was something incompatible with the data and it got overridden by a blank save file. I am afraid due to the current circumstances I won't be able to fix the issue. I could probably find a different save that was roughly at the mid game as well, but they might have bought different things. I could also tell you some cheats for the game so that you can fast-track the beginning.

Well, thanks for looking into it.
Cheats to help fast-track the beginning would be great.
