Shard Tracking
So, you get one whole Elder Shard from each boss defeat, which is 3 Shards, and a 1/3rd shard from each miniboss, there are 9 minibosses, so that's another 3 Shards, and then there are three 1/3rd shards hidden in the world, that make up the last shard, is that right?

I notice that there seem to be a lot of people who are having trouble keeping track of how many / which shards they have / not gotten.

The pause screen has a tracker above that tells you when you have an Elder Shard, and how many fragments you have, could we get another tracker that tracks total Elder Shards acquired?

You already do sort of - each shard you corrupt or destroy gives you something you didn't have before - just by knowing you have that you can know that you've used a full shard

I don't think it's really necessary.. just my opinion

Except, you know, we still have people that are having this problem.

Including a person I was reading a post of just earlier, who went most of his game without realizing he'd spent one of his shards on corrupting an ability by accident.

Your save file tells you if you've corrupted an ability, the ability will be purple instead of white when picking the save you want to load

You seem to be of the opinion that I don't know these things.

Yes, I am aware that It shows all your abilities you've gathered on the Save File Screen.
Yes, I am aware that it shows a different icon when you've corrupted an ability.(You know what, the save file screen doesn't have any indicator of how many you've destroyed.)
Yes, I am aware (As of early this morning, long before this conversation, I had at first assumed it was patching going on) that when you destroy a shard in the Incinerator, it unlocks a unique node on the Skill tree. (Great, that's in a menu that I look at for exactly as long as it takes me to spend out all my shards and get back to running. Little things changing don't register unless I'm looking for them.)

You keep tell me that there are all these things in the game that I already know about.

DESPITE ALL THAT, PEOPLE ARE STILL HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING TRACK OF THEIR SHARDS. I don't know how to make that any clearer for you.

The simple fact of the matter is that most of those indicators are in menus or hidden away on the skill tree, and appear pretty seamlessly, to the point that I thought they were just patching in new abilities. It wasn't until just this morning (And I've been playing it for about a week or two now) that I noticed and connected that a new node appeared on my Skill Tree when I incinerated a Shard.

I found myself, in the middle of the first region, wondering to myself how many shards I had collected thus far, and realized that at that moment I had that thought, I couldn't remember exactly how many shards I had collected/incinerated.

Now, maybe, just maybe, you are blessed with a perfect recall, and the ability to keep track of something like that, between game sessions, on a number that doesn't directly get referenced all that often.

Unfortunately, there are others out here that don't have that kind of recall, and could use a helpful tracker. There's already a _/3 number on the pause screen that tells you how many fragments you've collected towards an Elder Shard, I don't see how it would be a terribly difficult, annoying, or immersion breaking addition to put a second number under that one that says "Elder Shards total: _/7"
