Tips and Tricks Thread?
I've been getting my ass kicked on the easiest setting. Usually there's a thread for tips and tricks, and I haven't found a dedicated one here. For you Gods of The Arena, what are some of your fundamental strategies to help us scrubs?

I too am scrubby, I lose my opening fights before I even have mind control, surely that's just RNG killing my only fighters right? It's rough.

The tutorials really needs to explain how important employees are to you.

I could be wrong, but it seems like Blacksmith, Architect, and Educator are mandatory.

Blacksmith is needed to repair your gladiators equipment and auto-upgrade.

Architect is the most mandatory at first to build everything. Eventually you can fire him, but probably not before day 100.

Educator has a good mix of buffs that you can get quickly and cheaply.

The other option would probably be Medicus over Educator.

I made it to the last day twice with blacksmith/educator/architect.

You have to embrace death, TheWaisian. Dying in the blood-tainted sand of the Arena is the most glorious ending to our futile lives. Do not complain, as the Gods are watching you.

Pray to Mars and send your opponents to Hades. And when the time comes, stand proud in front of death, as you are now a Legend. Your memory will live forever.

If you fire the Architect, do the Palus, Stones and Coal Pits stay there?

I'd also like clarification on which buffs stick around. I know the Architect's improvements are permanent, but are there any others?

Spoken like a true God of the Arena, my friend.
Edit: Yeah, if you fire the architect the improvements stay.

I've reached the end game a few times & beat the gladiator boss once, normally this is what I do.

I instantly set my Doctore to auto train units- I'm not sure if manually doing it is better, but ♥♥♥♥ right clicking them all the time.

I then proceed to buy the Architect, I have him pop out Palus's, then stones & then feet burners.
Then I buy Faber (Armorer), start reseaching auto upgrade- then make sure to tick auto repair & auto upgrade, he always upgrades, but he'll only repair if he isn't researching.
Then I buy educator- but only recently, I'm still unsure, but the 25% damage boost seems OP, but before him I was going for Sacerdos(Monk guy) or the bard, they give random buffs & ♥♥♥♥ periodically which seem decent enough.

Remember to buy all 3 of these guys instantly- don't buy one & then wait, just buy all 3 you should have enough at the start.

The guys you start with, one should be fully equipped & geared, always use him & after a battle always remember to heal him, he should win all the fights at the start against the AI quite easily unless the game decides to ♥♥♥♥ you over & throws a Retarius at you(Advanced unit with net), the AI just can't seem to deal with the range of the spear & doesn't block it at all. - Oh & make sure to fully upgrade his weapon if possible.

I rush mind control on the spec tree & then I rush for Murmilla training- I think these guys are overpowered as ♥♥♥♥, especially if you can get the correct cards(Blessings) for them.

I think the game personally relies to much on you getting decent cards, I could just suck but when it comes to how certain characters should be trained & built, or what all the numbers actually mean & how they effect AI- I haven't got a clue, because I rush Murmillas- when I'm training my gladiators, I don't train defence at all- i go straight for agility & strength/weapon & just buy the best armor when I can, your attack speed is so high that you can just batter your opponent a few times then roll away.

This isn't a sure fire way, you'll still get cucked by RNG.

None stick around except for the ♥♥♥♥ the architect makes- someone told me who found out reading a post that the developer made, so it's pretty much just what I've heard, but from what I've played that seems to be the case.

From what i gathered from videos :

Keep the magistrate and legate happy. Give them wine and throw in useless fighters ( keep slaves for that ) in unfavorable fights so you don't lose rep or a good gladiator.

Try to have a starting fighter with at least 160-165 HP. I think this is very important. The more the better. To get them more HP win fights ( pit fights also count ).

Get the architect , the medicus and the faber. Make sure you get auto upgrades as fast as possible and tick that box on faber. Build a palus , dig a hot coal pit and gather stones for your champion with the architect and then have him focus on baths and other upgrades. After that build the aforementioned upgrades for the rest of your gladiators.

Focus on agility and weapon. Defense is apparently useless. Strenght is ok but the first 2 more important. The devs said they will tweak the AI etc so i am not sure if meditation is good.

Always upgrade your weapon to the best possible first , then the boots/whatever. Also get a decent shield and chestpiece.

Save gold for mid-late game as apparently the legate sells awesome gladiators.

I've just typed a lengthy thing in this post here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/535230/discussions/0/135513549087765461/

May of be some use to people.
They are my personal findings, and some may become invalid as the game gets patched.

I think it's pretty cool we've arrived at the same strategy independently.

I've noticed that if I don't get a couple weapon master cards, I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Weapon training and agility training are also good cards that pay off later, but most cards seem pretty useless compared to weapon master.

I just haven't messed with mind control yet, been playing mostly on my laptop and I like not having to press a lot of buttons with the AI control.

If you can get a thraex with a qama and double weapon master he can solo just about everything.

I tested it with an educator. Researched something, fired him, hired him right back. Research was gone.

I think this is the way to go as well.

Go cheap on your gladiators then buy good ones from the legate to round out your team.

The medicus is convienient, but I feel that the general buffs that the educator provides are hard to pass up.

Focus and Anatomy are really good techs. Everything else is just gravy.

The medicus just heals and has research to heal faster. He might just only be worth it after you ditch the architect, but I still think the bard or sacerdos are better picks.

if you want you throw a slave untrained and without a weapon or armor into a "easy"setting (also mild and normal) fight and he might win 28% of the time... so yea thats something

That happened in my last run.

Naked slave gets sent out, transforms into a murmillo, wins.
