In the last 100 days or so, if you have a really good gladiator who can obliterate the opponent without taking much damage, you can farm the pit for a ton of last minute gold.

i still use the agent... selling secrets or blackmailing can give 120-220 gold most of the time (i can't actually figure out what affects this but i think difficulty?) which is more than most pit fights (you only get 150 profit from an agent pit fight) and there's no danger of losing a gladiator. then either use the emptor or the faber to reduce slave/equipment costs or just equipment costs.

i've beaten hard without ever going into the pits. it's an unnecessary risk imo.

I dunno, the agent sounds cool and all but I feel like there's a few employees that stand out above the rest and those are: faber, sarcerdos, educator, and architect.

I typically start out with faber, architect, and sarcerdos. I build like 7-8 paluses with hot coals and then the baths before firing the architect and picking up the educator. Once I get to that point, where I've built those things I've listed, it's usually where I really am starting to need the educator bonuses. At least on the hardest difficulty, that is.

I don't think I can justify dropping any of those employees in favor of the agent, or anyone else really.

faber is a 25% cost reduction on all equipment after his researches are done while the emptor is a 15% cost reduction on all equipment after his haggling research. he also reduces the price of legate slaves which is where you should be getting all of your gladiators from in the first place. and on top of all that he lets you keep the legate in the green even on pro gamer difficulty. which in turn nets you more cash because the rewards for fights are higher, and the fights are easier too. so between the legate slave cost reduction, keeping the legate happy, and the 15% reduction on equipment i think the emptor is just as good as the faber.

the sarcerdos is just worse than the bard imo. sarcedos heals, and gives random skills. the bard increases training speed, increases morale (which in turn increases a gladiators stats), and increases healing speed. the sarcerdos might have better AI fighting but there's no way to quantify what this bonus actually does while i can SEE the morale boost giving me stats. i mind control my gladiators which is another reason i don't take the sarcerdos but even if i did i think i would still take the bard over him.

the educator i agree with. he has heal speed, a damage buff, and train speed. all 3 of those are pretty amazing. so i think he is a must buy everytime.

i too do a row and a halfish of palus and coals then when they fill up i just grant freedom to my best gladiator at the time. fire architect after that and baths to hire the educator. but i take the emptor over the faber so i get more money to buy more gladiators from the legate cause better fights/cheaper equipment and i take the agent over the sarcerdos to keep the legate even happier by selling secrets for coin and favor.

i've taken 1v6 fights and won with mind control so i don't see the value in the stat bonuses/train speed as much as money to buy more gladiators to win the final domina fight. but i guess you use AI so maybe the playstyle differences make these paragraphs all for naught... but i already typed them so i'm leaving them here lol
wait morale actually helps with stats that is something i did not know

@Bomjus1 Yeah, I only use AI. I might use mind control in the future but I think I really prefer watching my gladiators fight instead.

That said, the automatic upgrades from Faber are huge. When I first start out, I usually only have like two gladiators that have classes and gear. Faber will ONLY upgrade gladiators that have a class selected, so doing that in the beginning allows you to target upgrades and get a pretty geared gladiator relatively quickly for pretty much free. Just buy the cheap, cost effective upgrades yourself at first so when the upgrades start rolling in, they feel worth it.

And again for the Sarcerdos, I think it might only target gladiators that have a class selected for stat upgrades, but I'm not sure. I've noticed it heavily favoring my first few gladiator slots. Can't really confirm anything there as I haven't paid too much attention to it. Even if you play with mind control, though, those stat upgrades can be pretty great.

Another huge benefit of the Sarcerdos is that gladiators will heal even while training. It will be a slow heal as opposed to doing it manually, but if you have multiple competent gladiators, like towards the end of a run, it'll be nice because it allows you to not have to give up training in order to heal.

@Vinneh I'm not sure about morale in general, but if you can increase a gladiator's morale by giving them coin/wine, their stats do increase. Mostly agility and weapon damage. I'm unsure how or if morale affects it beyond that, though.

there morale won't go above happy if you are giving them just coin and wine (might not go over pleased?) but if you have the bard they are always "overjoyed" as long as they are full health. for some reason morale drops drastically during the final day before the championship so i fire the bard and hire the haruspex to curse the enemies.

I don't think I've encountered a morale drop before the grand championship. What does having them at overjoyed get you though? Aside from the stat increases when rewarding them, I haven't noticed morale having an effect on stats. And if it doesn't affect stats outside of that I don't really see a reason to ever get it that high.

But yeah, if you give them coin and wine, they won't go above happy generally.
