Pause, go to controls, and make sure that when you move your controller between characters, none of the other controllers are moving also at the same time. If they are, you just have to fix that issue.
As for getting a character to leave, there is a control for "bubble" triggering the bubble is basically the way a player enters the game drop in style, and they just have to move to the live players for those player to activate them. If they use the bubble command while they are already in a bubble, it is the way to quit the game.
On keyboard the default command is t. On controllers, it is holding the left and right bumber buttons at the same time.
Some players affected by this issue have reported being able to fix it by enabling "Xbox controller settings" in Steam's Big Picture Mode, under Settings > Controller Settings. Could you please try that and let me know if it makes a difference for you?
(If not, please email support@drinkboxstudios.com and we can try some additional troubleshooting steps).
Obviously I'd love to fix this problem on the Steam end, but in the meantime, it would be great to have some box in Guacamelee that's like "really, it's just me here, regardless of what you think is going on."
