Guns vs previous gear?

I only got the pistol, but so far the crossbow seems the most useful to me. I'm mainly a melee user, but crossbow is multi/instant shot before needing a quick reload, and most shots are instant kills, unless I miss or they're heavy. Bow is slower and not instant shot. Guns are instant, but I feel like I land less headshots, and i can't craft their ammo.

I have the skills maxed on damage.

I think you'll need golden firearms sold by Jai to deal ideal damage. I currently use purple tier firearms and they feel powerful already.

Later on you'll find that regular bows are better than the crossbow, especially if you go do some Shen Xiu missions and get the Ballista bow. That thing does tremendous damage and stagger to all enemies.

Most of the bows do 3x headshot dmg and crossbows go up to 7x the dmg, where the firearms are nerfed by defalut to 2-2,5 x the dmg for headshots. As you said arrows can be crafted (and if modded never get lost) but bullets are 50% of the time based on rng and 50% of the time in that one chest that is like 2 min away surrounded by 99 "mentally challenged".

I already got the Ballista Bow. I wasn't too happy with the bows that require Shen Xiu to obtain the ammo. Havinng to farm missions for that sounds annoying. And when I tested the weapon, it didn't impress me enough to stick with it. It's possible I missed something then.

Ah, I didn't get any guns besides the starting one and the one that came with the time bonus.
