No roaming volatiles is just plain dumb.
You can simply just... kill all the virals that are following you, where are the big scary zombos?

"Gotta get your chase level up to 4 at night or go inside the GRE facilities / subway transit systems during the day"

Is the general answer to this question. Which, to me is the dumbest design decision because you can easily avoid Volatiles by simply ending a chase early, or not going inside GRE facilities during the day. So essentially you can just never encounter one, ever.

I'm sure I'm the minority, but a lot of things about this game just show how bad the developmental hell was for this game. Lots of weird choices, ragdoll physics for zombies being random, terrible story, side quests that just feel hallow, the focus on human adversaries and factions... in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ zombie game.

That being said, the game is decent at best. A lot of people say this is better than the first game. And again, probably the minority here in my opinion it isn't. Feel like this game should have been 1 and 1 should have been the sequel.

I personally believe the first title was just handled a lot better. (And was way ahead of its time if you look back at it, yeah the story was complete ♥♥♥♥♥. But the game was so much fun to play.)

Whenever I found out that no Volatiles roaming at night the fear aspect of the game just... vanished, and roaming at night just became ways to get more XP.

I honestly don't even remember the last time I've reached a level 4 chase. Hell you need to go so much out of your way to achieve something that should've been there from the start.

Maybe add more roaming volatiles depending on the difficulty you're playing? I do enjoy playing the game, but I just can't help it but think it's just way inferior to the previous title.

Definitely wouldn't recommend buying this at full price for anyone.

Having roaming volatiles as they are implemented now would be a death sentence.

They have a habit of regularly simply lunging at you and either one shotting or removing 80% to 90% of your health.

You can't block it, you can't dodge it, it simply hits you.

In DL1 killing them in large numbers was pretty easy, here, on Hard, just dealing with 2 or 3 at a time is difficult because if you make one wrong move, you're either dead or are about to be dead.

i guess that's the idea

they want nights to feel more dangerous

The nights don't feel dangerous at all.
I literally run around freely without worry
Somewhere to run into when you get to chase 3/4 is always nearby, the map has so many safe spots compared to DL1

They seriously need to add in a Nightmare mode or something, but tbh id rather they not buff the normal zombies in a nightmare mode, just buff the mutants.

Brother/sister I've seen one volatile in the game, and it was during the first sections of the game.

In the the first title they were literally introduced to make night running dangerous. There's simply no danger other than your Immunity system that doesn't even matter once you get a few Inhibitors.

It just feels bland, boring and honestly a huge let down.

Roaming volatiles was what made the night in the first game so scary. The hunt was natural and not an event with a timer and chase level.

As i said in other threads, this game was designed and coded by amatér junior prpgrammers/Designer.

There's a difference between dangerous and avoid nights entirely and be unable to do anything other than run because volatiles will one shot you.

I purposefully summoned volatiles at night and even modded my game to have volatiles immediately start chasing you if you get spotted.

There's NOTHING you can do. You can't fight them, you can't outrun them on the street, you literally need to go on rooftops and go from rooftop to rooftop or use the paraglider to break off the chase. If they catch up you WILL die. It's not exactly fun.

The first game was scary? I used the volatiles for free immense amounts of parkour experience.

They weren't scary, they were early free parkour levels, and free combat levels later on when you started getting actual good weapons.

In DL2 volatiles can and WILL one shot your ass constantly, the only downside is that you don't really meet them unless you intentionally level up a chase or visit hospitals and such at day time.

It would be pretty cool if the devs could do an update to add roaming volatiles, doesn't need to be in high numbers, just a volatile here and there on the street and even on rooftops for a nasty surprise, but you really don't need as many as DL1 had, they're far more deadly here.

that's the idea

they only "one shot" you in early game, once you get more gear and skill they're not as bad

Having animation tracking/homing abilities in a game like this is a huge cop out.

This isn't a MOBA.

You say this while I'm here in full lvl 9 aka end-game gear and they still drop 80% of my health in one animation that homes after you and you can't avoid it.

You're clearly not in max gear or on max difficulty if you think it's not as bad. It's still pretty bad.

Agreed. Remove that bs "attack" and suddenly having volatiles roam around at night is OK.
