Has Coop progression been added yet?
A mate and I bought this ages ago, and never got around to playing it, mainly because of the lack of coop progression (we played through 99% of DL1 + DLC together, except for those two missions you couldn't).

Can you now progress game together?

Nope, will never happen in Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 is not a linear game as was Dying Light 1 story. Decisions made during story will heavy impact your world (location control granted to Peacekeepers or Survivals)
And ALOT of stuff unlocking only in New Game+
Technically Dying Light 2 has 8 different endings (in reality in closer to 3 significant choices).
So basically Dying Light 2 has ALOT of replayability potential.
Your character progression is ALOT more significant that in Dying Light 1.
The reason why there's no co-op sync and progression save for the one joining a host is probably the "Distress call" system. You can join another player game and lose some of the progress you had, or jump forward into the story and skip something.

On the other hand, they could have just let a player decide if to save the Host progression for themselves or not.

Well, unfortunately it has zero playability for many people who enjoyed the first games progression.
