What do you guys think is the best build for tower raid?

Been playing the tank mostly just for survivability but don't wanna spend all my tokens on other stuff before knowing whether it's a waste or not

I see a lot of people going with the toxic guy, is there a reason for that?

He does enough damage and has enough damage resistance to be a solid melee option. And because it's one-handed, it's fast enough to fight off the swarms. He's my go-to as well. But they are all viable, just depends on what you prefer to play. Oh—it's definitely not because of the toxic daggers, those are useless 🤣
I started off with the toxic guy due to higher stamina and 1 handed slash weapon. Fully upgraded and he basically one shots every zombie (except for special infected). Also upgrade your mods and attach them to your weapon once you've collected enough scrap (45 per mod). On quick mode, normal difficulty, you can kill the GRE anomaly right after it jumps down if you also use a rage booster. You will have to deal with 2 volatiles since they seem to spawn based on health thresholds of the anomaly, but you can kill all the special infected during the duration of the rage booster anyways.

Other tips I would give is to simply use regeneration boosters whenever you enter an area that will have a mini-boss and take the +40/90% damage increase when health is above 90% perk. The regeneration booster will make sure that you are pretty much always above 90% health. If you have enough perk points, also get the -50% stamina consumption perk.

Nice thanks man
Well... if you want to cover all the content on TR for now, you can start with any character and, when done, switch to another. I don't see any huge difference in gameplay. If you start with a crossbow guy, you'll may have to switch to melee later on when found legendary weapon in chests. If you start with any melee guy, you'll get guns on upper floors... on the surface everything is +- the same now. Might be changed later on with fixes and updates. Like they've just changed the amount of health. I don't really see any "Classes" or "builds" RN... It's mostly about the looks.
