NIGHT TIME : About volatiles
What do you think about night, at the current state?
I feel that.... is unbalanced. The fact that I can only run... run away. And cannot fight volatiles, makes me mad. Why they need to have that much HP? Why the game almost NEEDS to tell me to avoid them? Hard is okay.. INVINCIBLES is another thing. :(

Thing is, you're weak at the start, and become much stronger later on. Why does it tell you to avoid them? Because they're the Apex Predators of the infected, they're stronger and more durable than the rest. Why so much health? Because if you think about their armored skin, probably plays a role in there. And they're not invincible, just level up your throwing knives to like, half way, and they die within a few direct hits.

A few direct hits? I'm almost level 9.. after 25 knives and almost 100 rounds of pistol in the head.. they just lost 10% hp.. and melee attacks? They barely do anything to them. Of course they can be killed.. (maybe one on one).. but they are REALLY close to be invincible, and they ALWAYS call of reinforcements.

I really have no idea how to do that. I just would like to kill one.. but I just can't.
That sounds a bit much of an issue, that shouldn't be happening. If you have thrown 25 knives and 100 rounds to the head of a Volatile, and they STILL won't die, might be a game issue. I have hidden in brush at night, and my throwing knives were leveled up 4 times, and it took only maybe more than a few hits, but they died within maybe 10 knives. I dunno, that's just odd.

Fully upgraded throwing knives kill them in 2-3 hits. You can even kill them before they detect you this way. After some time they become ridiculously easy to kill, only matched by how insane their spawn rate is at night.

That's part of the charm, you are supposed to mainly run at night and volatiles are what make it scary, either run really fast or move stealthly at night to avoid aggroing them.

I'm playing on nightmare and volatiles are practically invincible unless you spam UV lights on them as you dump damage, that way they can be killed, but its still hard enough that unless absolutely necessary you should be avoiding them.

I liked DL1 for the fact Volatile's were bad @sses, and if you didn't run or weren't strong enough, you're practically done. As for DL2, Volatile's AI, pfft, well, you know what I mean, lol! These Volatile's have no brain, and really love getting a sweet tan on those UV's.

Ok so I can confirm I've some kind of issue, like Reisalin is saying, 'cause my knives ARE fully upgraded.. and they do nothing. They way I tested? I stayed in one of those towers full of UV lights and tried to "attack and hide" multiple times the same volatile.... and I'm in NORMAL mode. It's also worth to say I'm in a NG+, but that should not be an issue, because I remember they were hard to kill even before, the only thing is not sure since when (so I'm not able to remember if I did trigger something to cause the issue).

So, if this is an issue, how can I fix this? :(

Try playing on nightmare, they are still as scary as they where in DL1.

Also obviously they shouldn't be afraid of UV light, otherwise it would be very easy to make them run with UV...

But, why are they burning themselves repeatedly? That doesn't make any sense... It kind of hinders the ability to get away without starting a chase, or if you do the side quest, Double Time, and that guy who has a twin, the Volatile just takes the burn... I mean, why?

First there is the gameplay reason, since we have to use UV lights to kill them it would be even harder to fight if they just ran every time you flashed them with UV rather than just flinching.

But also there is the plot reason, since they are bloodthirsty hunters the moment they see prey they don't mind even being burned as long as they can keep track of what they are hunting in the process.

Sure this sometimes can lead to some silly scenarios of them killing themselves accidentally but it isn't like other zombies don't also die for even sillier reasons like bumping into spikes and so on.

I get that, but if I'm trying to do a night time side quest, I'd like it if these A holes would just flee. Like, bro, what's the point of the side quest, Double Time if all these Volatile's are gonna do is roam AROUND the quest giver? I'm doing a quest, please, go somewhere else. I don't like being stalked in a cut scene, then being chased right after I'm done talking, it's pretty annoying.

But that's all part of the challenge of nighttime, do quests during daylight when possible, when it isn't try moving as stealthly as you can to avoid triggering volatile chases in the first place.

If ♥♥♥♥ happens you can always run to the closest safehouse, sleep and try again the next night.

Yeah... Thing is, Double Time is a night time quest now, but you CAN do it during the day, but the dark zones will be even harder to do. Reason is, because there's tons of infected in there, along with Volatile's, and you can't exactly push past them. The Collision doesn't allow you to just squeeze on by, so you basically die.

The way I completed that quest was to talk with the npc during the day, then sleep near the darkzones and slip by them during night.

But you probably could still push past enemies during the day with fireworks, coins and a lot of sweat since you just have to run through the zone, but still easier at night inside the building.

I tried that, but the game kept killing me for leaving the mission area. It wouldn't let me do it that way, it had to be then and there. If I tried talking to him during the night, he's not there.
