Are throwing knives waaaaaaaaaaaaay too good?
Played the first game few times, and eventually with a friend. Eventually we came to play the second game.

With enemies feeling SIGNIFICANTLY weaker than the previous game, I figured I would do a little trolling and use the throwing knife almost exclusively as they are one of my favorite play styles. I figured it be a barely viable gimmick while forcing my partner to do most of the heavy lifting while I occasionally made his life harder.

It didn't take long to realized that the throwing knife even at lower levels was the destroyer of worlds. As EVERYTHING dies in just a few hits, basic zombies, volitailes, humans, with the only exception is the humanoid bosses. Even the GRE aberrations are cake as they can barely resist the knife spam.

Eventually we ended up running around at night and raided dark zones during the day cause that was the easy way to farm upgrade materials while doing what ever else. And as we continued to upgrade the knives the numbers looked weirder and weirder. as from lvls 6-7 had a just from something like 175 dmg - 425 dmg in one upgrade, and eventually maxed level at 525 dmg but then when we checked it again later it was 630 dmg. And this is when we are about 5-6ish hours into the game before even unlocking the second island.

Between how spammable the knives are and how dirt cheap they are to craft and how early we can craft them, this doesn't feel normal.

IS IT??

Throwing knives are super OP and I love that XD

Edited to add that I play DL2 to feel like a damn badass. I grind mutation samples right away so I can upgrade the throwing knife blueprint to full asap and two-shot Volatiles by level 3, max. It's just how I love to play. And the option to *not* use them is always there, or bumping up the difficulty. I just want go feel like Aiden is Superman and The Hulk on one after boosting him self wth all of these shots 😉

Same :D I started new campaign few hours ago and only hunting at night to farm rare zombie materials xD knife with 630 dmg can 2-shot volitalies and 1-shot every zombie. It's so OP that I'm ashamed of using this feature XD

The throwing knives are amazingly powerful compared to the cardboard knives of DL1, even on nightmare+ they're exceptional against everything smaller than a goon besides volatiles and tyrants. On Hard mode it took 2-3 to down a volatile, N+ it seems about 10 is the norm, haven't tried counting against tyrants.

I am doing a replay of the game and right off the get go I see a survivor asking for help. Well my weapon didn't suffice. I will make some throwing knives in the morning.
yes they are
i killed my first volatile the second night of free roaming with throwing knives and been slaying every boss with them. its insane how easy it is to craft them as well. throwing knives break the game no doubt
It's so stupid to make knives so powerful. It's imbalanced nonsense. There are shurikens, there are bows and crossbows, but they are not needed at all. There is no motivation to level up anything at all. Because there are throwing knives that are made from simple scrap metal and fabric, while one shuriken requires rare blades, and a bow does not level up at all. Knives kill any crowd of zombies and any night hunter in 4 shots. This is absurd and bad game design. I have not found a single mod that reduces its damage. It's a complete bummer.

You could just, you know, not upgrade them? And on higher levels, you do far more damage with your other weapons anyway. They become a back-up tool pretty quickly. They just make the early game viable.
i think molotovs are more OP than throwing knifes you toss them at a group of enemies and they become completely defenceless plus they're cheap to make the only downside is the initial impact if you aren't careful you WILL die from it

I mostly just use the throwing knives to just 'chaff' clear zombies when running GRE quarantine zones

Honestly I love it. Makes me feel like a ninja. They don’t work as well on bosses which I’m cool with. Honestly most games make them so weak and useless they aren’t really fun to use.
