when do you get guns?

I completed this game on release and it didnt have guns
recently I found it in my library and saw it has been updated and has guns now
at what point into the story you get you hands on guns?
how do you get the ammo for said guns?
you find it in containers or you are supposed to craft it like arrows?

You can probably get someone in co-op to just give you one of the guns, once you have done a few events that effectively remove the requirement to do all the Jai stuff (I think you still need to do those if you want to be able to buy more, but you don't really need to) you can end up with some duplicates. I may be wrong but if you joined a co-op game with me temporarily I could give you an SMG, pistol and possibly a shotgun...I think. Ammo is easy to find as there's lots of places with abandoned military vehicles with containers full.
