Is nightmare mode even worth it?
I completed the game on hard, I don't know if nightmare would be something I would enjoy because you can't detect volatiles with senses as far as I know, is it doable or does it become more "realistic" and tedious to deal with them and other zombies? Like how good or enjoyable is it?

I don't care much tbh about that skin you get anyway...

Considering early game will still flood you with volatiles not knowing where they are given the density of them just isn’t my idea of fun since you are punished further on nightmare.

If you don't care about the outfit you get, and you don't want to deal with the game being punishing, I wouldn't bother with it, even if you feel like you may want to try, don't. It's really not worth your time, unless you're a masochist and enjoy pain, or you like a challenge. Nightmare mode is literally for those that felt like the game on any difficulty, was too easy, and if Nightmare is too easy still, there's mods on the nexus that can make it even more agonizing.

Long story short, no. If you already beat the game on hard and you've seen mostly everything, I'd play something else until DLC 2 comes out.

It's tedious and I can't imagine it's particularly fun for anyone who attempts to play it first run instead of NG+, not because of the increased difficulty from enemy damage/booster efficiency loss/reduced immunity/etc, but from some terrible design decisions.

Making the game darker without fixing the night vision potion sucks, because they insist on giving you the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flashlight in existence. They really need to improve your ability to see at night for a limited duration without making it safe, such as by adding regular flares that light up a large area but attract enemies and provide no safety. It would help make the gameplay a bit more streamlined without making it easier.

The decision to make lv5 chases spawn so many Tyrants is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ artificial difficulty, because they can't come up with a better idea on how to challenge you besides just inundating you with one of the toughest enemies in the game. I would rather face 2 tyrants + 6 volatiles + 6-8 virals + 2-3 banshees, instead of the current 5+ tyrants you can get, because their high UV and stun resistance means you can't realistically counter that many without cheese. They just invalidate so many of your abilities and equipment that it feels like a waste of time.. Sure, they're supposed to be an apex predator that you can't easily face head-on, but their numbers don't make any sense. Lv5 should have more variety of enemies instead of just spamming the toughest one.

And I say all that despite the fact that I have no shortage of maxed-out boosters, high dmg weapons, and high level gear to make all of this significantly easier. I'm not complaining because the challenge is too much and I can't handle it, I'm just complaining that it's not all that fun.

Yeah I was frustrated with random spawns even on hard before so it sucks balls I guess... Thanks for the info though, much appreciated reply :)

Yeah, I'm not into dark souls experience, at least not here haha, so I'll skip it then, thanks for the insights :) I think DL 1 was better in terms of difficulty balance :)

Thanks for the insightful reply and yeah, I am cool with sticking to hard or normal then, I don't want to fight that many tyrants and deal with bad flashlight duration and nerfs to boosters...

Yeah if it's that challenging to the point it sucks the fun out of the game, I'll skip that, I played DL1 on hardest difficulty and it was alright, the dlc was a bit worse, but I can only imagine how bad this is.

I guess I'll stick to more fun then rather than losing my mind over tedious gameplay this introduces :D

Thanks again!

Dark souls challenge was fair, if you want to compare it to dying lights 2 volatiles it’s replacing every regular mob in the game with a boss or elite enemy equivalent.

Yeah I'm good with my regular volatiles and zombies then haha xD thanks again!
i recently started playing it and after like 5 mins it's so ♥♥♥♥ it's laughable how unfair the difficulty it is and maybe it's because of low legend levels (being at 50 at the time i'm typing this) as well as not having high level blueprints but regardless it's so ♥♥♥♥ in fact that i think it's worth no ones time i think DL1's nightmare mode is WAAAY better then DL2 nightmare mode

Started playing Dying Light 1 about 3 weeks ago started to play on Nightmare difficulty from scratch and the game was extremely easy, particularly after unlocking DLC weapons (especially one that use silver bullets). There was no challenge at all. And that was before reaching legendary levels.
Legendary levels make Dying Light 1 a child sand box (was playing in Coop with one friend).
However I was extremely surprised how drastically Dying Light 2 nightmare mode changed gameplay. No silenced weapons, no infinite stamina for parcure moves, no highlights from survival vision, extremely dark nights, your flashlight is actually VISIBLE for most night creatures.
That was exactly experience I was expecting from nightmare mode.
You ARE a victim, not a hunter. It took me 40 hours to reach Center district and 70 hours to master movement combinations for successfully evading night chases.
Average night I died about 9 times, sometimes 12times, if I was careful I died only 3 times. But now I can hear Volatile breathing sounds and footsteps that allows me very precise understand where is danger coming from and evade detection during night.

And actually 10th anniversary event unlock very lucrative firearm and mele weapons that actually allow to kill Volatile pretty consistent after reaching character level 9.
And at last unlocking access to Legendary levels allow you transform from a Prey to a Hunter (still have only lvl 6 armor pieces).
It just took only 120 hours of game progression.
And I'm still exited to explore New Game+ mode for additional challenge...

My biggest complaints with Nightmare are collectibles not being highlighted with Survivor Sense and Volatile spawn frequency at night, particularly on rooftops. Other than those two things it's been a cakewalk. I spend daytime doing open world and Dark Zone exploration, and nighttime cheesing Virals, Volatiles and Tyrants at the Fish Eye lifts or in the stairwell of a cleared Metro Station. Maxing out throwing knives early on really helped with the cheese factor.

Bonus complaint goes to the person who thought running 960 km was a good idea for an achievement.

I've beaten the game on nightmare from start to end, it was quite fun.

Combat is extremely hard at the beggining, but from my understanding that's how the game is designed to work even on lower difficulties, after a few levels and missions the game already starts feeling balanced and before you notice you will be mowing down bandits and zombies with ease.

The only enemy that spelled trouble from start to end where volatiles, but that was also what kept night very fun and scary, a lot of running away and stealthing without a flashlight.
