"Roaming Volatiles" road-map has me confused.
Hey all, been jumping back and forth on Dying Light 2 recently and I finally gave the 2023 road-map a look, it all looks great and I'm super excited... and also a little confused. I doubt anyone will have a definite answer but I'd at least like to know what everyone thinks the devs mean by the "Roaming Volatiles" update coming this month.

In my game Volatiles absolutely "roam" around, in all actuality those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are everywhere lmao. I can probably guess some of the changes in the upcoming "New Night Experience" but the "Roaming Volatiles" has me stumped.

They already roam. Playing the game right now and nearly had a heart attack when I climbed a building to look for police cars only to find my nose pressed right up against the back of a volatile's neck lmao.

A momentary glance over Dying Light 2 forums and threads tells me that most people seemed to prefer the night system of DL1 over DL2. My assumption would be that the "Roaming Volatiles" update is them trying to make there way back to that.
I'll definitely need to replay Dying Light 1 then, I remember most things about it but I can't recall much of the night system.

There was almost nothing to do at night in DL1. This game is geared towards nighttime exploration and looting. If they make the nighttime ridiculously unfriendly, then it will alienate new players. The nighttime of DL1 simply doesn't suit this game. I hope that they don't go overboard with the June update.

Nighttime needs to be roaming Volatiles, without them the game seems like it is set in a completely different universe. It needs to seem terrifying, at the same time though Aiden is pretty much a superhuman which means the developers can lean into this to make nighttime less terrifying and alienating to the players.

I really enjoyed and mastered Dying Light 1 nights, though I will admit they were unbalanced. All Techland has to do is properly balance the roaming Volatiles and it will be fine.

To OP: The Volatiles only really climb buildings to attack you or run away. To me roaming Volatiles is giving them the ability to climb buildings without responding to a player, amking them seem like a natural part of the world. If you can sneak up on a Volatile at night, you can notice how they just statically stand around doing nothing. Thus, making them roam makes them more lifelike and like the apex predators that they should be.

the volatiles here dont really roam, more just kinda stand around in pre determined positions. they also dont initiate chase. like other replies have said, i think theyre looking to go back to the night system of the first game which im worried about. i loved the atmosphere of it. it was definitely scarier than what we have in this game. but i just dont know if it will work well here. dying light 1 really was just "oh its night time better sleep"

That's true, I'm replaying the first game to get caught back up and I definitely remember being actually startled by night time.

I guess I can see why they'd want to get back in touch with the first game. From the way the developers worded it, and the way some players have talked, it kind of felt like I was the only person that had volatiles in my game lol. I was beyond confused when I'd read some players talking about Volatiles being nonexistent. In my current playthrough of Dying Light 2 Volatiles are almost -everywhere-, they're so numerous for me that I've recently been struggling to get anything done at night, especially on rooftops where they like to stalk around, but I'm also on New Game + so that could have something to do with it.

I forgot about Volatiles being able to start chases in the first game, so maybe that's the way they plan to revamp them. Still though, I'm easily excitable and having the developers word it as "Roaming Volatiles" has me hopeful that maybe they have something up their sleeve that will surprise all of us.

Could just be hopelessly optimistic but I love these games and Dying Light 1 took some time to become a great game, I'm sure the second one will too.

I guess I haven't recognized the their spawn points, I move through the city so quickly that I'm pretty much guaranteed to bump into one and upset its pattern enough to where it doesn't seem predetermined yet. I'm so excited to see the changes they make to "Revamp Night"
