Viral rush event special virals not spawning (bug?)

I turned the community event off a few hours in because the virals (like the PK ones) highlighted in green when using the survivor sense were tanky as fck and kept getting in the way. After a week of playing, I decided to turn it on again so I could start getting the rewards but they weren't spawning at all. No special virals, just regulars. Is my save bugged or did Techland remove them?

Happened to me, sometimes it doesnt activate, its pretty random, but most time it works, try to restart game.

To know if its working just do a sound (trigger the red sound icon) in the street, if the virals are immun to UV then its working.

Less sounds call less virals, so sometimes its not obvious to know if you triggered the virals from the event or not.

I actually tried restarting the game several times, even verified the integrity of the game files just to be safe. However, I still can't get the special virals to spawn. I mean sure, regular virals still spawn almost nonstop and count towards the event, but it still feels like I'm missing out. Thanks, anyway.
