To address your points:
1. yes, but at that particular moment he was turning into a zombie, which is the number 1 threat in this world. Were I in the Survivors' place, I would have done the same
2. you can see however you want that interaction, I disliked the children as well for their actions, but then they were trying to get food for their mother as a birthday present
3. I wholeheartedly agree abt Barney, he is easily the most hated character in the game for me. Each time he talked I would ramble "you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot" at the screen
4. correct
5. there is one that is quite likeable
One memorable sequence for me was about a knowledgeable herbal healer. Some PKs had come to her for help for their injured, and she gave it, but the buffoons messed up her instructions and wound up harming themselves even more. They blamed her, thinking she'd poisoned them on purpose. For punishment, they burned out her eyes. Yay PKs. They call her a "witch".
Well at one point, the PK leader (Aitor) lies dying, and his doctor, who still has respect for whatever medicinal knowledge remains in the world, sends you to the healer for help. I told her who I was helping, and she actually agreed to help! Now that takes some compassion and strength! To help the leader of the people who blinded you!
She tells you what plant to get, and what part to use (and you need to remember this). At the point where you have the opportunity to give the medicine, you can choose to poison him (use the wrong part of the plant), which I am guessing will kill him. I knew that would probably be blamed on the healer, who was already very unfairly treated. So I give him the correct parts, telling everyone exactly who/where I got them, even over his crazy wife's objections who still thinks the "witch" is going to kill him.
And Aitor is healed. His life is saved by the one they unjustly mutilated. Goes to show what idiots they are: she really does know what she's talking about. You find Aitor later, hanging out in the Fisheye bar, minus his blue PK uniform. I think he's having a change of heart.
I gave control of the VNC tower antenna to Frank, after I climbed up there for Jack Matt. Frank provides inspiration to the survivors over the radio. I wonder what Matt would have done? Remind the whole city that the penalty for stealing is cutting off your hands? (I kept hearing that around the PKs.) The PKs seemed medieval and barbaric.
But hey, you could eventually just choose all paths, to see what the authors wrote! :) I always start by choosing the "good guys", but sometimes make other choices afterwords, just to see more of the hard work put into the stories.
But you have to work for the last quests with the Survivors and they use every opportunity to scold at at me in a rude tone - never ever I'll do this again
After I finshed the game I think for NG+ it is better to support the Survivors - even just for the perks you'll get
Lawan first says that she has no issues with the PKs. Then when you activate the power station she suggests to give it to the survivors without really explaining why I shouldn't hand it to the PKs. Also I went back to the other part of the city to finish most of the side missions there and so far all of the PKs that have popped up with quests were decent characters.
Some of the comments you hear from PK npcs while running through the city is a bit cringe like: "Keep your distance citizen! This is a military operation." but it's what I'd expect to hear from an organization that considers itself the official military.
I've still yet to meet anyone decent from the survivor faction.
Btw. in terms of gameplay the traps are kinda pointless. I have to agree there.
Also what the heck is Lawan as a character even doing? We are in the tunnels together. She walks away from Aiden and he collapses within 5 seconds after she walks around the corner. He wakes up again and she stands like 30 meters further down the tunnel wondering what happend. But she didn't even look back for a moment to check when Aiden didn't immediately follow her? Seriously? This is pretty weird in terms of writing...
So you claiming that the survivors are not forcing "ruthless law" is inherently wrong as they are very much willing to fight and kill anyone that stands in their way. Not much freedom in that.
Also freedom inherently will create differences in societies as people with different mental and physical capabilities will always be more or less successful in what they do. A 1 meter tall man can never compete against a man double his height in basketball if they train about the same amount of time. The smaller man simply will have physical disadvantages.
And if the survivors claim they want to build a new and free society (btw. their original leader - Sophie's mother - was "leading with an iron fist" - not freedom oriented) then this would mean they would have to leave people alone and let them do what they want which means medical professionals could do similar research again to create another plague.
If they do not want that then they would have to limit freedoms which once again goes against their own mantra of "freedom and equality for all". It's a big reason why I see the survivors as hipocrytes...
