I feel you wanting to mod the game to play your way, I did have the press and hold option turned on until I realised it meant that I could never escape from a Volatile pounce, so turned mashing back on.
With the Zombie grabs, I've got a lot better recently at dodging the grabby biters. It does give the game more of that DL1 feel, but as others have said DL1 had more than button mashing as an escape option.
Aside from the "unfair feeling" grabs (super speedy, upwards and through walls), it can be super satisfying getting the timing right to dodge the incoming grab or time the swing to hit and interrupt!
For example:
Data0.pak
Data2.pak
Data3.pak
Data4.pak
Data5.pak
Data.6pak
And etc.
