Same character as the first game?

A friend stated, even though we finished the game and xpac, that the character from the first game still exists in this sequel. Are we playing the same person, or as it's set 15 years alter, we assume the other guy bit the dust seeing as there were 3 endings, not sure which was legit

the canon ending is probably Crane being turned into a volatile as there's no way he'd nuke Harran after spending the entire game trying to save it, not to mention that the entire world gets taken over by the virus by 2 meaning him escaping n becoming a volatile to infect to continue the infection outside of the contamination zone makes sense.

No this follows the story of a different protagonist and Kyle Crane is not in this one. Maybe an easter egg reference but not in the game to play!

Or the Night Hunter. (Not confirmed but makes the same sound as the Night Hunter) Crane may have became the sane at day but crazy at night sentinel Volatile.

Different character. Crane turned into the Night Hunter at the end of The Following. (There are 3 endings yes, but 2 endings are the same (nuke) and is not canon.)

Also the night hunter wears the same outfit as crane.
