How did the virus get out of Harran?

Since in DL2 world practically ended, how did it the virus spread out?
Are they going with one of the endings of Following where Crane escapes?

If that information is avaiable somewhere... Otherwise I'mma just have to wait and play the game to find that one out

The ending from The Following where Crane escapes is canon. So that's how.

The virus was being experimented on by the GRE and that’s what escaped a lab near Geneva. That's what started the global pandemic. It's mentioned somewhere in the Dying 2 Know episodes. No mention about whether or not it actually escaped or if someone released it on purpose.

I really hope they don't abandon what happened at the end of The Following though, the best ending. Like, Crane is still around but is still in control and intentionally didn't spread the virus or something. If it's only mentioned in passing or referred to briefly then I'll be disappointed. I suspect they might go that route considering most people won't have completed The Following (only 13% completed it on Steam).

yeah this is the cannon though i hope they do more to let us know about it ingame, its also why the virus is abit differnt this time around as it was made in a lab, the is also the comic though it makes little sense

Crane´s escape after the following may have had something to do with it, but chances are that the ministry just quarantined that area too. More likely the GRE´s attempts at weaponizing the virus before or their desperate spin attempt in making a cure is responsible.

dude they explain everything in the intro video when you open the game, thats like the very first thing you see, they cured the harran virus, then gre kept experimenting and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up again, this time dooming the entire world.
