Oh- if you were referring to the story it's supposed to take place quite a few years after the first game but I'd imagine they'll have a lot of references for people that did play DL1. It's probably not necessary but you can get a few hundred hours out of DL1. Lots of cool stuff to do/places to go.
if you want a recap this ones really good. i highly recommend playing it though, storywise it has little to do with dying light 2 and the story is super generic but its worth playing imo.
the video covers the dying light book "Nightmare Row" and both campaigns for dying light 1, and the dying light 2 comic from a few months ago
First game is great fun and basically the best first person open world zombie sand box out there as it lets you do and use pretty much anything as a weapon including your self and lets you have great freedom of movment but also lets you use a vehicle to if you want and it has 3 very different maps catering to different ways of play with the countryside being vehicle based and the old town being very high level parkour while the slums is about scurrying though tight alleys and across old railyards .
