i'd have to say that this question doesn't fit the game it self.
this isn't an mmo with a set tank. mitigation exists, but it's not something you focus on stacking as a strategy like an action rpg.
stats on gear is fun, but frankly succeeding comes down to your ability to use the game mechanics.

My preference is:
• increasing 2H damage
• reducing melee stamina

Then a mix of damage reduction for Infected, Night and Fire.
Parcour & Combat XP is kinda wasted - at least when you are at max level.
Knuckle boost also, if you dont use them.

Having like~ 80% 2H damage increase, ~30% less Infected damage and 40-50% less stamina cost for melee, paired with the LVL11 Tank Gear armor is enjoyable. xD

anything that gives flat damage reduction
no idea what the best rolls are and wht the best armor for that would be and what the %es are on level 9 gear

But should I look into day and night damage reduction

Or infected and human damage reduction?

It doesn't really matter, the game is incredibly easy even on hard.
I just look at the damage bonus to the weapon type I'm currently using and nothing else.

Even after you complete the main storyline and everything is on your level, it just makes enemies annoyingly spongy, but not exactly harder.

to be fully honest tank is the worst class of gear in the game.

2H weapons are rare and cant be modified, same for knuckledusters for the most part.

if you are going tank I recommend just going for defense and resistances, and other passive buffs that arent combat based. you are best off trying to get a set of gear that resists all elements as much as possible (doesnt have a combat or parkour xp bonus as that is a waste of a slot) and preferably ranger extra perks such as less stamina for ranged weapons or dmg. since tank ranger combo is a decent class overall if you wanna go for that

until they make 2H weapons more common in the game in general, or buff them the tank gear is purely only good for well... being a tank.

(coming from someone who wanted to play tank the entire game since launch and was met with a sad fate)

the best class overall is brawler. (because of course 1h weapons are op again)
I have a full set of lvl9 artifact brawler gear I use that gives me a 70% dmg increase with 1H weapons AND a max level muscle booster with my 500dmg weapons gives me about 1200dmg per swing with elemental dmg as well AND the swings are 2-3x faster than 2H weapons.

medic and ranger being about equal as long as you properly use their buffs. though combat wise of course ranger is better than medic. though medic saves resources and is better for looting and keeping weapon durability, etc

I REALLY REALLY hope they buff 2H weapons. I really wanted to play tank but its just not a very fun class atm in my opinion. I would only use it if I was bad at the game and died more often than i liked. but im pretty good and dont die to enemies often at all so i have no reason to use it

best way would be to get all 4 rolls on a single piece if not have a night and a day armor or a human and an infected armor and switch out

thast not really wthat OP asked tho, sure the game is EZ but OP wants to build a full tank toon and OP is asking what is best for that, why does it concern you if it is nescessary or not

game easy on hard? cant say the say the same for non-pro's and people who aint maxed out on everything that has a level and dont have OP stuff (and what ever these silly weapons i see in some youtube videos?)

normal difficulty, for me atm, is not easy but not hard, but yet again i just started, but seriously? hard mode is easy?

And I said that he should focus on damage bonus, because resistances are pretty much irrelevant for the gameplay in the current state.

The added difficultly on hard is barely noticeable in combat, mostly it just makes stuff you find worthless when you're trying to sell it. Other than that, maybe regular zombies are a bit more grabby, but I don't know if it was the difficulty switch or the new patch that caused it.

The only thing that is hard is install kill volatile which apoernetly have no struggle animation to possibly get out of

Or vitals having 3 meter long arms to hit you with while running

Also the grabby notnal zombie thing that was never solved in the first game

Not thatall of that is too much of a problem, except the volatile part , cuz I don't recall then suppost to be that over powered

Look for the highest dmg on 2H the day/night endurance doesn't help much. Endurance boosters work best.
