Tech issue or game design? Movement is drunken/wobbly/floaty?
Hey all, so I played a bunch of DL1 pretty recently, but it's been a bit. I just started playing DL2 and wow, something is either wrong with my setup here or maybe this is intentional?

I know that there are lots of movement skill tree upgrades etc., but in the early section how do I describe this... it's like I am actually very drunk. I try to walk forward, but i'll like... float or wobble to the side first. Then i'll try to correct course and... wobble the other way. I literally zig zag sometimes walking through a house just to get to a cupboard.

When outside, often times it seems fine, i can look forward, move forward no problem. But then as I try to play organically the same thing starts happening, i'll try to go in X direction like in every other PC game, but in DL2 my chad sort of floats or stumbles to the side first.

It's so weird! I have fairly low tolerance for input lag, i'm on a 144hz 4k monitor on DLSS quality, usually around 90ish fps, but I cannot figure out why my movement is clumsy. I trying to walk around like Ace Ventura full of tranq darts.

Is this a "movement system" or am i just having an input lag or tech issue I should try to solve?

Thank you guys so much for this info, especially DanteYoda for assisting with the technical aspect. I have experienced input lag before.... and the last time I did was maybe 2011. Because I make sure every piece of hardware and settings i use are low latency/high performance.

This never really felt like input lag to me, not really. That's what generated my question, and now it's been actually answered! But the answer is pretty tragic, I just can't see why someone would intentionally do this to their game about *movement.* It feels incredibly bad on PC.

One question: is it possible I notice it more due to setup/settings? Im on a 32" 4k 144hz IPS gsync monitor, with a 10900k under water @ 4.8 all core, an RTX 3080 FE, 32gb 3600, 2tb m.2. Gsync on, settings mix of high/ultra, usually around 85 fps. I'm used to very fluid frames. I've been on gsync since 2017, and would never go back (although there are very few real gsync monitors left, most are software only now, such as my 4k, but its still quite good, just not as good as the previous 27" viewsonic i had with a gsync chip).

I wonder if it's less noticeable on a smaller monitor (or on a tv across the room maybe?). Im surprised this isn't a bigger issue among gamers. I don't want to refund because I liked DL1, so i'll give these fixes a try.

EDITS: Fallout 4! Whenever Fallout 4 came out is the last time I experienced input lag, I had to edit the files with long numbers so that the mouse wasn't floating all over my monitor.

AND! This doesn't make me motion sick, it just look and feels awful. I feel really bad for people that get MS from this.
