That is a result of no manual save option implemented - it is never a good design decision and it backfires soon or later.

Here is the list of all possible save files locations for Dying Light 2:

After starting Dying Light, selecting Dying Light 2 from the main menu cured the symptom.
Do you have the first Dying Light?

I had the same problem after recent windows reinstall (with keeping only files option). All apps were uninstalled but there was a folder left in
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\dying light 2\out\-save_backups
There should be file .bak
If there is - then navigate to
your Steam folder\userdata\[Your steam id]\534380\remote\out\save
Backup the save_main_0 (simply copy it to somewhere else in case you want it back)
Now delete it from save folder and copy paste the one from documents\(...)\-save_backups
remove the .bak extension so it will be .sav extension
rename the file to be the same as previous one - probably save_main_0
so the final format should be save_main_0.sav

in my case it restored my save :) hope someone might find it helpful

If you dnt have a backup save file rip. Replay or download someones save file in nexus.

incase your corrupted save uploaded to steam cloud overwriting the right one, do backup manual to other storage , do not rely on one backup steam cloud
