When was America discovered? (Moonshine side quest)

I feel like an absolute idiot for having to ask this, considering the game implies this to be common knowledge, but for the life of me I cannot find when America was discovered.

I need to open a safe containing moonshine, and the journal says that "the code to the safe where the moonshine is hidden is the year of discovering America." A very vague prompt but obviously there's a correct answer somewhere.

I had a look around the mission areas and couldn't find a year anywhere.

Trying to look it up online, I'm finding so many different dates that I don't know where to start trying. I've seen between 40,000-17,000 years ago, 42,000-21,000 years ago, 40,000-16,500 years ago.
The first civilisation that I can find was the Norte Chico, circa 3,700 BCE with their first city around 3500 BC, but I don't know if the formation of a civilisation counts as discovering the continent?

Sadly, throwing zombies against the door or putting an explosive on top are not viable alternatives to opening safes.

For me the first result is a 2016 article on voanews.com saying that 1492 isn't when America was discovered.
"14, 9, 2" opens the safe though, apparently there's a celebration about it in the United States of America so I'd have had no clue, thank you.

1492 was when EUROPE (more specifically Spain) discovered America. It was also discovered by Vikings but was not recorded as part of their "history" so it goes under the radar. And if you wanted to be technical, the "Americas" were discovered by tribes that crossed the Bearing Sea bridge some 10,000 or more years ago. Again an event that was unrecorded. So, the general "correct" answer is 1492 as it was recorded.
