Upgraded grappling hook before unlocking it in co-op

On my character the grappling hook was still locked yesterday night, didn't play the story mission yet. I joined a random yesterday night who had already unlocked the grappling hook. and was surprised to find it in my inventory as well as soon as I joined his session. I upgraded it 3 times in his session, had the military tech for it so I thought why not.
When I started my own game again, I didn't have the grappling hook anymore. So I played until I unlocked it, but it's level 1 and I can't upgrade it. The craftmaster only lets me upgrade the other stuff.

Will my grappling hook be stuck on lvl 1 forever and bug out for the rest of my character's life ?

you misunderstood, he doesnt have the ability to upgrade his grappling hook

yep, it's a common thing. Just been reading a bit and it seems that more people have it : if you upgrade something in someone else's sessions, there's a chance the upgrades are forever lost when you log in your own game.

Just go back to where you found the military tech to get them back. They respawn just like everything else.

bro it's not the military tech problem. I can't upgrade my grappling hook too. Craftmaster no longer has the option for me to upgrade after upgrading in my friend's session.

Did you verify game files? delete game and reinstall? You say what the problem is but don't say if you have tried anything to fix it.

I tried verifying the game files, backed up my save from just before and tried again. No use, I think it's tied to my save somehow.
There was a way to fix it with a mod called dev tools, but the last 1.0.6 patch broke that.

Best not to coop. I know some people cannot play without others but this game really damages people save games by playing coop.

Ah, "best not to coop", you say That's like going to the garage after somebody crashed in your parked car and the mechanic says "You shouldn't have parked there"... Great advice, thanks bud :) Solves everything. You don't HAVE to reply if you don't have anything useful to say, you know.

You will still encounter the problem. The problem isn't local to his corrupted game save state. Others have it too. So it means if you play co-op you'll possibly encounter the same issue again. Needs a bug fix.
