The infection timer is important for the design of the game.
I have seen a few people that are annoyed by the Infection timer and call it bad game design. While I understand where they are coming from, I heavily disagree. The infection timer is not only there to annoy you while exploring. And I am surprised how that many people dont see it. It's one of the most if not the most important mechanic in the game for its setting and tone. Because it's puts you into a constant feeling of pressure and uneasiness. And I get why people are annoyed by it, when they are exploring. Simple solution to that by the way: Inhalers or explore in the daylight.
They could have been lazy and just make everything GRE facility a simple Dark and dusty house, instead they made into a very good 20-30 experience under pressure. Because in every other game, you could just take your time and wait a few minutes to get the routes of the zombie and to sneak around them. In this game however, they made every second count. So you get nervous and are at unease while that zombie is in front of your hiding spot. And it also encourages a quick get away while the zombies are chasing you, because, you don't want to take too long in there. In the streets it also encourages exploration because you need to explore the city for good and easy ways to UV lights. When you are being chased or near the timeout, you are under pressure and automatically participate more in the faster way of the parkour system, because every second counts and you need to get on that house or through that building.

I get why people are annoyed by it. But maybe if the pressure and the uneasiness is not to your liking... Than maybe this game is not for you. Because nearly every encounter or Building is built around this.

the arguments against it are really people saying "you get rid of it with consumables or having to go to a light every now and then and it's annoying."
same goes for a lot of mechanics.

they should get rid of health, you can just replenish it with items, or resting.
they should get rid of locks, you can just get rid of them with items
they should get rid of breath timer underwater, you can avoid it by reaching the surface.

Exactly. It really just needs some balancing, not to be removed completely

They could just move it over to "survival mode" and let those that love a challenge and being constantly reminded of the obvious, a choice to choose from, while those that dislike it can play the game on it's normal settings and not have to deal with the watch, problem solved.

It should've just be an optional setting so people could have it on or off, and then had it so if you had it on it was an actual threat. The way it's implemented now is just awful and honestly is a compromise that pleases no one.
maybe it should've been tied to difficulty, have no timer on easy/normal and a timer on hard/nightmare

Dying Light 2: Stay Human (Or Don’t)
Honestly if I can't autistically inch my way along the ground prone trying to stealth by the 1 zombie asleep 2 rooms away while checking every floorboard for hidden scrap underneath I will literally piss myself and have an attack. The timer is too stressful bro.

Health is not on a timer.
Locks are not on a timer.
They should get rid of underwater sections entirely. Every game that isn't Subnautica should.

Personally, I wish every game consisted of only water levels

water levels and sewer levels
The idea of the timer is good and I like it, but in game it's horrible, 5 minutes is more than eneough tiem for most activities and you only get more timer allowance as the game goes on, right now I have 49 inhalers and nearly 10 minute timer, Unless I sit near chemicals I'll never run out. The mechanic becomes pointless after the first few hours.

Just wait until you have used most of the Inhibitors in the game, I was only missing some, like 3 or 4 I believe and my timer was over 15 minutes long.
its just pointless , give us the option to turn if off at least

The fact that it's pointless is precisely because the game's trying to do too many things at once already. Don't encourage that.
I disabled mine and the game is far better now.

You do know you can buy them unlimited? A quest vendor has them restocked every time you take a nap.

I also usually do dark sites during the day, it´s just funnier unless certain mobs are present in which case I retreat and come back at night. I have like 200 of those top tier inhibitors and a whole bunch of different level ones.
Most annoying thing about the timer is its so short in the beginning that even though you can get 30+ uv shrooms before even needing them you will burn through them super quick and having to constantly stop for a second while sneaking to use it until you can upgrade some parkour perks since sneaking is so slow
