Is the music in this as good as dying light 1?
I absolutely adored the retrosynth soundtrack of the first game. Absolutely nailed the 80s feel they were going for.

As a composer/producer, I have to say the soundtrack is excellently composed and objectively better than the first one. The orchestral elements give the game a much more emotional and cinematic touch and generally the tracks are quite fitting to the scenes, atmosphere and the story in generell. One of the best recent game soundtracks I've heard in a while. Whereas I found the first one to be rather predictable, flat and lacking of actual depth.

IMHO, all notable tunes are rearranged and reused compositions from DL1. No good new music :mrear:

It's ok, it's nice how they tried to compose it to the sound of moving around and jumping and the challenges are great but overall. The music track seems convoluted. A mess.

I think the music in some parts is straight up weird. Example being right after you leave the watch tower after the first night. I cant describe it, it's was just strange.

46:50. It's not bad...just out of place.

It's for sure not the same genre all around as DL1 but OH MY GOD it's got some adaptive elements that really shine during risky parkour.

The music is mostly forgettable. There is one song it plays every now and then that is supposed to be uplifting but just sounds like someone is autotuning a fart. It's hilarious and ruins the moment every time.

The first game had music?

Darn this is really breaking my heart. The 80s synth was absolutely perfect for the mood they were going for. What were they thinking?

I'm really liking the soundtrack. I saw one review compare it to John Carpenter, and I can totally see that.

I also compose / write music and produce - and I think the first games soundtrack is far from flat even if it isn't necessarily the most memorable.

I played the first game for a few days before the release to get back into the movement system, and the first thing that stood out to me was how great the music sounded.

It is definitely more in line with 80s John Carpenter and other horror classics, with lo-fi synth textures and pumping rhythm sections for action sequences. I think because it fits the aesthetic of the game so well it is a little less memorable and plays more of a background character in the overall narrative aesthetic.

But recently re-listening to it I feel it has plenty of depth and is quite dynamic in what is going on from moment to moment in game.

That said - the new sound track is just beyond, I absolutely love the contrast that the new orchestration brings. I can understand where it might put off some - but for me, I think it plays a much more forward roll in the visual narrative and is instantly memorable.

Thematically it is actually fairly in step with the first score - and even calls back to it from time to time within its new textures. I am so glad they took a risk and did something new and original in scope instead of an iteration on the first game.

I don't know man. I do like the whole 80s synth thing normally. I just feel that it was completely out of place in the game, since it kinda implied this 80s feeling that otherwise wasn't present at all visually. That made it quite flat and out of place to me. Obviously not musically in itself, I should have been more precise.

I'm glad to see more people actually enjoying and recognizing the step they took in DL2 with the music. Here I actually like the synth elements, since they mix quite well with the orchestra and give the whole sound a more vibrant and modern vibe.

It felt out of place to you? It seemed like it was heavily influenced by 80s horror and zombie movies. I definitely had a lot of day of the dead vibes from it. As someone up top noted, John Carpenter was clearly a big inspiration
