Doesn't matter if I get a good start or not. Right within the 50 second mark, I simply can't knock zombies faster. Any tips?

you just have to keep trying, I managed to get gold after about 30 tries and that's only with around 0,10 seconds to spare

Get a buddy to join you and do the challenge in coop. More people makes it alot faster to complete

The trick is, when you kill 18 zombies, another two appear at around 53-54 sec, but sometimes a trigger activates (idk why) and they spawn at 51 and if this happened, you can easily win this, I got less than 58 sec https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2746220440

Use your heavy power attack and it sends them flying much faster. If you kill them as soon as they spawn it speeds up the next lot spawning. If you're lucky your power attack can cleave and hit multiple zombies at once, which greatly increases your time. You'll need to practice managing your stamina with the heavy attacks (don't keep it held when you have less than full as it stops it from regenerating), or you can come back after you've injected yourself with more stamina, but ultimately it's trial and error to get a good run as it's pretty RNG dependant (zombies will sometimes dodge you at random, your attack pattern isn't always the right one, etc).
